Stereo with iPod, nav, camera...
I'm new to the forums so hi all!
I have a 2006 GX470 with the Mark Levinson stereo system with nav and camera.
I have an adaptor (cheapish) that is connected to the back of my stereo and allows me to play my ipod. But, the ipod is not integrated really. There is nothing on the display and I have to select my music, then start playing, then connect it to the cable to get it to play my chosen music. Otherwise, it always starts with the same playlist.....it's annoying...so
I want to modify this somehow. There are units such as this one
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...pf_rd_i=507846
a Pioneer with ipod, pandora, nav and camera ready built in.
Questions
1) Will this work in the GX470
2) How much native function will I retain- for example, will the camera and nav work as they do now? (don't care much about nav as I don't think it's that good, although I like that I can override to let my passenger program it while the car is moving). Or, will the nav be from the new unit and the camera have to be replaced. I don't know how to find this out.
3) Is there something better out there or an alternative to what I am considering.
Thanks for any help! I thought maybe someone out there had done this with this or a similar unit. I just don't know if this is the right way to go.

Have you check out the Vias (I-pod in & out) systems yet? This might get what you want and keeep the stock unit. Here the link http://www.vaistech.com/dev/home.php

I can't speak to the new Vaistech ML+ unit (integrated Pandora, video-out, etc) but I just had the SL2iUP unit installed (cost $199, out the door including tax and installation was $280) and it's AWESOME. Fully integrated into the nav system, it gives you on-screen and steering-wheel input iPod controls, etc.
The ML+ unit was $300.00 more ($499 for just the unit, before tax and install) so I couldn't really justify it for the addition of video-out or Pandora)

If you have factory navigation it's almost impossible to replace the factory head unit. Too many system functions are integrated into the screen display, such as climate control. This is a much more reasonable approach for a no-nav model.
As mentioned the Viastech stuff gets good reviews and carries a big price tag. I went with a Grom unit instead, much cheaper, but very limited video integration.

Thank you all. I'm likely going to buy a Vais unit- maybe the MediaLinq with the video in motion as I'm also considering adding rear video for the kids. I had considered it before, but wondered if another aftermarket unit would do.
I will call them and make sure it's all compatible and I'm getting what I need.
Again thank you. That is exactly what I needed to know. I couldn't get a good answer about after-market products elsewhere, but after considering this and visiting Vais' site again, I think that's what I want.
