Spend time around boats and you will learn that the longest lasting engines are run every day. Sitting or inconsistent use is what causes problems. Looking as some of these 500K miles trucks they are obviously used often and certainly maintained well. I just picked up an 05' 470 with 190K. Took to the dealer for timing belt. Seller told me belt was done last year. Dealer gave me old parts back. Belt was fine but water pump was leaking. Only a matter of time. Keep up with maintenance and drive it a lot they will last 500K.

I bought my '05 with 70k miles and it now has has 180k miles. As preventative maintenance I just had a new Timing Belt and radiator replaced. Other than cosmetic pieces getting old, it's been extremely reliable.

I work in a shop that specializes in Toyota/Lexus and we see GX's every day with well over 300,000 miles on them. I just bought my mom's 08 GX470, without hesitation, with 170,000 on the odo.

Yep, GXs are very reliable in my experience. The only reason that I got rid of our first one (2003 with ~205k miles) was that the frame rotted out. The truck itself was still humming along fine but 17 new england winters finally took their toll. Sold it for parts, which I assume went directly into comparable GXs or 4Runners. I bought our current '08 GX with about 105k miles on it. Just keep up on the regular maintenance and I see no reason why 300-400k miles isn't achievable.

I've got a 04' with 267k and she is still amazing. I bought her in 2012 with 180k for $14k. The only thing I've had to do is the timing belt and just now the blower motor for the AC. She's got the 4.7 V8 and still purring!

It's worth doing, look into intake behind throttle body, lake of oil in there?
The air pump under intake is prone to wire shorting due to chafing.

My 2006 255kmi is was sucking oil out of PCV and oil was accumulating in the bottom of the intake. I installed a catch-can inline with PCV.

My 2006 is starting to show gremlins form old age. I now have dimmed gauges from apparently LED issue. I need to figure out a slight delay in the drivetrain, not sure where the issue is, torsen or driveshaft or trans or diffs.

I scoped cylinders and pistons are very clean. My last UOA showed signs of increased copper, so not sure if bearings are nearing their ends.

Wiring/connectors and hoses are showing dry-rot issues.

But, still runs and goes.
