Cool Phase 1

Just finished mocking up my homemade roof rack and imagining how the 33" destination MTs (used of course) will look

I think it turned out all right. I still need to weld the back support legs but it's VERY sturdy as she sits.

All done by hand with simple tools.

Supplies:

1" EMT pipe (only 6$/10 ft) - 7 (10ft) sections
1" emt bender
90 amp welding machine
grinder
drill press
3/8 " (?) bit for bolt holes
1.25" bi-metal hole saw for crescents into EMT

1. Just bend a 10 foot section into a U directly in the middle and even for both side of the U, followed by another. Weld those together, end to end to form a box.
2. bend another 2 sections into a shorter U. same width though.
3. Measure your distance between the inside bottom rails
4. Hole saw a crescent moon into a piece of EMT on both sides the distance measured in step 3 using the very lowest point of the crescent shape as the measurement and cut point. Repeat 3 more times.
5. weld those into your bottom U.
6. hole saw 8 (3.75") small support pieces to hold upper U to lower U. 3.75 inches is measure from deepest part of crescent to deepest part of crescent.
7. Weld those in.
8. cut a piece of 22 gauge sheet metal into a rectangle about 30 inches long.
9. slap that on the front.

Mounting

I used 5 stainless washer to build up a platform on almost all bolt locations, except for the middle. THese were welded together then welded(preciesly) to a 1 inch/.25" thick flat bar stock. This in turn is then welded to a slightly longer 1.25 inch width / .25 " flat bar stock.

The rain gutter is only 1 inch wide, but the emt is 1.25 in diameter. Thats a problem. By welding the washers to the 1 inch to the 1.25 inch, we effectively raise the entire mounting platform just flush above the rain gutter line, giving a nice flush look after the short U shaped legs are also welded in.

The middle is merely 1 inch bar stock welded directly to the roof rack and bolted to those OEM mounts straight up.

I know I'm making it sound simpler than some of you think, but it really isnt difficult. It's just time consuming. This is my third weekend into this project so be ready to have the truck parked.

Phase 2 will be the coilovers up front and the 33's mounted on some tundra wheels. That';ll have to be next month though, cause I'm worn out for now.

I applaud your effort but it looks a bit rough on a lexus

Ur going to need to do some significant cutting on top of lifting to fit 33s. Even on a 4runner u need to get ucas. Then u have to sort out the rear air. Major pain and u give up the ride control.

But hey it has and can be done?

its not done yet. I still have to do the rear support legs and get it powdercoated. Of course it looks rough.

a 3" coilover lift for the front, wheel spacers, removal of sidesteps, and height sensor adjustment should work just fine to stuff those tires in there.

These wont be permanent modifications. Only for when we go wheelin. It's my wife's truck so its all gotta be able to go back to stockish form when she wants.
