The Lexus is full time 4 wheel drive, you don't have to touch anything. There is a switch on the dashboard, that has 4 wheels on it. That is to look up the axels, so they all wheels turn at the same time. That is not to be used on dry roads. The button is to be used in heavy snow, mud, etc only.
The little shift lever, next to the gear shift lever, is to go from high to low range transmission. Unless you were going off road, there is no need to switch to low range ever. One of the first things that I did, very boring, was to read the 3 inches of onwers manual, cover to cover.
