Default 04 Air Suspension Conversion Kit Recommendation

My 04 has 290,000 miles and the air suspension finally just quit completely after about 2 years of not holding air but still refilling manually. I’m having a hard tine finding anyone in my area to do the conversion so I want to buy a kit and take it to someone. Which kit would you recommend? I’ve never replaced the shocks so assuming I should do that too

Thumbs up

I vote for Dobinsons too. If you are in FL check exitoffroad.com. Mike is a well know member on another forum. He is in Jacksonville.

Finding springs and shocks that are in stock might play as big a part in your decision as anything else right now...everything is sold out after a crazy year for truck builds and decreased production due to covid.

For rear airbag conversion kits, I'd say go with Metaltech of Dobinsons, as the SSO kit has some lift built in that you need to factor in when selecting springs or you'll end up higher than you wanted in the rear.

For springs and shocks I've been VERY happy with the 2F/1R springs and twintube shocks (comfort valved in rear) from Dobinsons, but expect a wait as their stuff is very popular right now, and coming over in containers as it's available.

Totally true, due to covid, easily a couple of months of waiting.

How's the ride on the IMS shocks? Those aren't adjustable, are they?

Don't know yet. We're installing it this weekend so I'll report back. These are not adjustable. That would be the MRR setup. The MRRs have remote reservoirs, the IMS have internal reservoirs. My buddy has the MRRs on his 2005 GX, the ride is slightly firmer (but that's not bad) than the sportiest setting of the stock shocks. But less body roll and feels more controlled. But the ride on those are great! I just couldn't justify the additional $1k price tag.

you could also go with stock aftermarket replacement, not too expensive and you can maintain same functions, this is what I did:
front: OEM shocks replacement (400usd total)
rear: luftmeister aftermarker (250 total, look on amazon, people like them, they do have toyota imprints on them, might be remanufactured)
airbags: I left mine you can do aftermarker on RA for 70 each or so.
which closes the thing in under 800 or so. all parts in stock

Specifically, there is an active test for height control and when I attempt to do the test in techstream nothing happens. However, when I use the switch on the console the height control works. Also, there is an active test for exhaust solenoid, and most of the time I can turn it on and off, but periodically I can not. I am wondering if this could indicate an issue with the suspension ECU. However, I do not get any codes. Anyone use techstream and know if this is normal?
The first thing I did after I downloaded the TechStream was to test my air suspension. I got a C1744 (Low Pressure Tank Solenoid) code from the TS. However, my airbag seems to be working correctly, up, nor, down, etc. I can run all other active tests except toggling the the Low Pressure Tank (air tank for airbag compressor) Solenoid on/off.
When I run the Damper Test for the front struts, I can feel the stiffness change by pushing the front end. However when running the Damper Test for the recent replaced cheap eBay rear struts, it doesn't feel any difference. It looks like the cheap eBay rear struts are just with a fake electronic that eliminates the warning light.

You have a leak in the air suspension somewhere.
You may still be under a parts warranty from the mechanic/dealer. Talk to them first.
If you did the work yourself, use some soapy water to locate the leak.

Its possible you took too long to replace you bags and had your compressor running overtime and burned it. Even with leaky bags the car should lift unless ur compressor is out (i.e piston is bad not compressing)

Default Mangled air lines

I got a ‘06 GX470 last minute from my sister when she moved from Cali to Texas.. for cheap. Her husband had the rear suspension converted to a Strutmaster system… It rides like a Truck! During the process they broke the air line connectors where the airbags used be.
Is this an expensive fix? Chinese adjustable shocks run @ $200 a pair. Airbags are as low as $75 a pair. The height sensors are still there (although they still may need replacing). So I’m down to the misc bits for a final cost.
Sooo, do I need oem Toyota parts or will aftermarket parts work?
