I suspect I may be needing a new Master Cylinder soon. Here in Canada, the OEM part is $2800 (yiles). So I have 3 questions:

1. Thoughts on a remanufactured part? Prices seem to be around $100 - $150.

2. Are 4Runner parts interchangeable?

3. Wagner sells a new BMC for around $1100 (it says it's compatable with a 4Runner)

A few years back I had to replace the Master Cylinder in my Land Cruiser. I was quoted between $2,400 to $2,700 for parts & labor from several Toyota dealerships in Texas. Finally found the part for $1,400 at a Toyota dealership on the east coast then found a great mechanic who installed it for $125.
If I remember correctly, there are two master cylinder units available for the Land Cruiser, (of course) the one I needed was the more expensive. I have no idea if the 4Runner's Master Cylinder is similar to the Land Cruiser, let me know if you want the name of the Toyota Dealership where I purchased the part.
