Default Shift lever moves with pressing brake pedal

Hello everyone, I couldn't find where this topic would have been discussed before so I wanted to start a new thread. Please advise/ move otherwise.

So I made a scary discovery the other day, or I should say, my son did... Apparently, you can shift the lever out of park, reverse, any gear without pressing the brake pedal first! 06 GX with 77k

Since I might be the only GX owner with that issue, any advice before I head the Lexus dealership?

Thanks for any info in advance.

Just take it to the dealer and have them check it out!

Thanks for the suggestion!

Again, wondering if anyone else has experienced this before?

Wow - I'm guessing it was an accident? I've never tried, but that's kinda scary that you (or a young child playing around in the car) can do that...

Sounds like an electrical circuit. I don't believe it is a mechanical thing, to step on the brake, to get it out of park. In the mean time, set the parking brake.

wild guess, but it sounds like the shift interlock is broken, or the interlock override has been engaged somehow.
