Default Lexus Stealership try to stiff me

Yesterday, I called a Lexus dealer for pricing an engine air filter and the parts guy told me the cost is $25.
So today I went there to pick one up and when the attendant brought the filter and the receipt , he told me the filter cost is $27. So I told him that they had say it was $25. For like a minute of going back and forth he went to the back and printed me a new receipt for $25 plus tax. He didn't look too happy though.

I know this is just a few dollars we are talking here; however, it is the principle that counts which dealership seems to lack.
So this let tells me 2 things; 1- that dealership don't have a set pric e on parts
2- If you don't know what you supposed to pay for a certain part, you
will get taken to the cleaner. Thank God for Sewell parts.

Maybe someone on the phone made a mistake and the parts counter guy didn't know what you were talking about other than you were quite upset???

+1 Or maybe the person on the phone looked up the wrong part? Nothing to sweat over $2.

Ok, point well made about the $2 difference and a possible root of the discrepancy. That being said, I definitely agree with OP when it comes to dealer integrity and honesty. If you are not an educated consumer you will be taken for a ride, whether its $2.00 or $2000.00

I had Freehold Lexus service advisor tell me that my water pump needed replacement. When I called them to let them know that an independent mechanic (my father-in-law) failed to duplicate their findings - I was told that I misunderstood the advisor and that the water pump replacement was recommended but not required. You can draw your own conclusions from my experience...

The thing that gets me w/your post is "tried to stiff me", and the fact that you argued over $2. They probably think you tried to stiff them, and finally gave in to get you out of the parts department.

Not sure of the exact quote, but "never ascribe to malice what can be ascribed to incompetence". Or, in this case, I seriously doubt the guy on the phone was under-quoting the price by $2 to lure you into the store so he could wring an additional $2 out of you. He made a mistake, clearly, as we all do on a dialy basis. Probably an honest one.

But, +1000 re: "thank god for sewell lexus". My dealer doesn't even really have a parts department. They have a place to go buy Lexus embroidered hats and polos.

This is why you avoid local stealerships at all cost. Order everything.
