Bought my '04 GX470 @ 60K mile in late '07. Now at roughly 135K miles. Outside of regular maintenance (oil changes, batteries, fluids, timing belt, spark plug, etc), here's the problems I've had:
- Sunroof fixed (wires stuck?!?) prior to purchase of vehicle
- Replaced passenger side mirror wiring @ 90K miles
- Replaced sunroof @ 90K miles
- Driver side mirror now not working properly @ 100K miles [need to replace]
- Sunroof not working anymore @ 100K miles [need to replace]
- Speedometer is off by 5 - 15 mph occasionally while driving @ 105K miles [need to fix]
- Replaced Driver side axle boot (leaking) @ 130K miles
- Replaced radiator (leaking) @ 130K miles
- Vehicle stalled while driving earlier this week @ 135K miles [need to fix]

Bought new 2006. Took it in today for a minor with the odometer reading 213240.
Have had all the normal problems the dealer said are the issues that arise with that model. Radiator and axle boots around 150k.
Front wheel bearing around 175k.
Amplifier at 20k (warranty)
A/C unit is just starting to leak freon.
On my third set of tires, 100k+ on first two sets.
Was told that one of my rear struts is on yellow and would need replacing anyday.
On my second battery.
Second windshield and need another as I have 2 large cracks currently.
Normal maintenance applied, minors mostly, 2 majors, 2 timing belts, water pump...

I bought mine in oct. 2004 brand new. Just put about 100k on her earlier this year. Regular oil changes, timing belt and water pumped was changed at 100k as well. The clunk issue was fixed a few years back but i think its coming back again, is it still covered under the tsb?

If you want to get rid of the clunk get a good synthetic grease and a gun and do it yourself. I let Lexus do it for 75,000 miles, always clunked. Started doing it myself, rear every 5000 miles, front shaft every 10,000, no clunk for the last 50,000 miles.

Thats over 70k on orig tires. Only changed turning signal light 2 times on both sides. Maintance schedule up todate. I did install a trailer hitch. Need nav disk update.

I hope mine will last a very long time. I typically drive a lot. for example, my 05 escape, which I bought new and I just sold had 170K on it and still ran great and looked better than a lot of others and was never parked inside. Just keep up on the service (oil change every 3k) things like that and and keep it clean. I think most any new car should last a very long time if taken care of.

The mistake was partly putting on a different size wheel and tire size and using a bad retailer. The wheels I ordered had to be cut to fit over the hub because lexus has different size hubs. The wheels never was alighned properly. The retailer couldnt even alighn my car for me. Yep a wheel and tire seller couldnt alighn my lexus and I had to get it alighned at lexus dealership and they wasnt happy about alighning my lexus every three months. Thats how long i could stand the steering wheel vibrating and shaking. Once it was alighned the vibrating would go a way for about three weeks tops. I got tired of the bad feel the wheels gave me and went back to original tires and wheels. Wow the smooth ride was back! I am not sure what exactly made those wheel sand tires not work right (the retailer) but I am glad to have my smooth ride back.

I have a 2004 I bought new on 10/14/2003 with 30 miles. Today, nearly 9 years later I have 152,000 miles. I just took the GX on a 3600 mile trip in a wk to Colorado Springs and to Mt. Rushmore in South Dakota. this is the 2nd time I have done this and the GX ran solid at 75 mph plus up to 11k feet above sea level. We also had to fight 35 to 65 mph cross winds in Wyoming, and Nevada but barely felt the impact and the only majors have been brakes, tires and the best part I have started to do more of the repairs myself after 150k the dealership just charges too much.

2004 GX470 @ 132,000 mi
I've been very happy with my GX. Bought used in 2007 w/ 29,000 miles. Routine oil changes, always full synth (mobile 1). Tried to stay away from the dealership as much as possible - local toyota dealer has been much more reasonable for more invoved maintenance (e.g., timing belt). Here are the more significant repairs:
* Front wheel bearing @ ~100k
* timing belt, water pump @ ~90k
* Oxygen sensor (bank 1, sensor 1) @130k
* Transfer case leak from seal on output shaft (rear). Dealer wanted $1200+ to fix. Got it done at a local transmission shop for around $500 (including new output shaft/flange and of course a new seal) @130k
* Replaced all diff and tranny fluids with full synth @75k and 130k
Have not done in about 30k+ miles, so need to do:
* flush power steering system
* flush coolant system
That's about it. The only other item I am "worried" about at these higher miles is the suspension system. I live near the northern cascades so I do some off road ridding, though nothing too significant (logging roads, national forestry roads, etc.)
All you GX owners with 100k+ miles, any issues with your suspension? If so, did you go with stock replacement or "passive" shocks (instead of std active adjustable dampening) and steel springs (instead of height adjustable airbags)?
Everything still works fine. Very, very happy with this vehicle.

I'm in. My '03 has about 107k on it, and is still going great. I need to take it in for the front axle boots and new brake pads. I had the water pump and timing belt done at about 95K. Other than typical wear/tear stuff, it's been a great vehicle. We just took it down to the Vineyard a few weeks ago, laden-down with a huge kayak, bikes, and a cargo box. Not so much as a whimper. Here's a good shot after I played bike Tetris with the Thule for a good 45 minutes.

Best. Picture. EVER!
I'm not quite at the 100K mark; I just bought a used '04 GX with 93,000 miles and I'm looking for a travel-trailer now to tow. I'm imagining the rest of my GX will look similarly to yours once I load up all my bikes and a Yakima cargo carrier on top along with the travel-trailer.
The GX is about to take its first 14 hour road-trip to Banff Springs. We'll see how she handles
Cheers,
Kermee

I actually bought mine at 101K Getting the timing best service with everything so it does not need to be opened up again for a while
Also the boot is leaking and the rear shocks are leaking. Rear shocks are wait a while.
Everything else seems good.
