Default Rear A/C to speed cool down

My GX and I are in the south and I sometimes have to leave it parked outside all day in 100F+ temperatures during the summer. Needless to say it gets extremely hot inside and sometimes takes a while to cool down. I started using my rear AC on full in conjunction with my main AC to facilitate cooling off the interior of the vehicle. I do this even when I'm by myself because... if I'm not mistaken... the rear AC uses a completely separate unit including a separate compressor. So it seems that it would cool things down faster running both systems. Does anyone else do this or can verify that the rear unit is completely independent of the main AC system?

I do the same thing. I think it is a different unit because when I park their is water in the front and water in the back indicating two different locations of cooling coils

Looks like one compressor, separate evaporators and blower motors.

You can see the lines and condensation drain in the passenger rear fender well.

it's been hot in IA as well.

I leave the windows vented during day (using key in door), open windows/roof while approaching vehicle (using remote) and use the rear air to assist in cooling the vehicle quickly.

One quirk is that the rear unit is independent of the front - I can turn the front completely off and the rear will continue to run.

I used the rear A/C for cool down all the time. Set it to AUTO mode when i first get in and then turn it down to the lowest fan setting after about 5 minutes. The A/C in the Lexus was one of my favorite features, very efficient and strong. My only complaint about the rear A/C, in my 2004, it could only be controlled from the passenger facing center console controls. To change the fan settings I had to reach behind the console, not very safe while driving ! When I had three passengers in the second row, the middle passenger would also accidentally hit the buttons.

i only run both when I have passengers or I have temps over 90 as my black GX tends to get hot, but opening the roof and all the windows before getting in with the keyless entry helps . You can also open the rear windows manually and this will help keep the car cool while parked.
