Correct me if i wrong.... but my impression is that these domestic SUVs, even though they may be newer, lots of their components are very outdated , even when you look at 2007 models. Engine, transmission, suspension and AWD system in a Chevy or Ford ... do not seem to be much improved since the late 90s or early 2000's. Maybe i am wrong.

In other words.... if i want to spend only around $20k for a large used SUV, am i better off buying a 2003-2005 LX/GX470 .... or 2006-2007 Domestic SUV?

And yes, i realize that i am asking this question in a Lexus forum.
If you are even considering an American SUV, I personally would opt for a 2001-2007 Toyota Sequoia. The Sequoia is also a damn fine full size SUV.

In all honesty, the Sequoia matches or exceeds the LX470 in almost every category except of course luxury materials.

Feature for feature, the Sequoia wins hands down. 05-07 models can be had with optitron dash, second row captains chairs and the Sequoia will make a better long distance cruiser.

A few things...

The Sequoia is made by Toyota, which also makes Lexus. Neither of which are American.

In what categories do you think the Sequoia beats the LX? I believe they are on the same platform (someone correct me if that's wrong).

What features does the Sequoia have that the LX lacks? Are you saying that "hands down" the Sequoia is a better cruiser than the LX? How??

When he said he was looking at American made vehicles, the Toyota Sequoia (which is made in America) is a good option. The Sequoia is more American than the LX470 in that it is much larger. That is why I mentioned it and I realize that the Sequoia is a Toyota and not a Lexus.

As for features, both vehicles are about on par for for features, the Sequoia has always had slightly more hp, but very minimal.

I looked at a used Sequoia but could not pull the trigger (still looking for the right SUV) I like the current design of 4Runner and it has a V6.

Yeah, by "domestic options", i was specifically referring to Chevy Tahoe, Ford Expedition, GMC Yukon Denali, Lincoln Navigator and Escalade...since they are cheaper used.

My whole point/question was around the 'outdated' technology in the 2002-2005 LX/GX...vs the technology found in these so called newer 2006-2007 domestic trucks.

I am not ignoring the Sequioa. It may be a good Toyota option. I am still looking to find a Limited edition that fits my price and age/mileage needs.
I read that the Sequioa 4WD system a lot more basic when compared to the GX/LX. I hope it can still handle the snow in the mountains well.
