Default What should I know before diving in?

I joined this forum because I trust owners. I'm strongly considering a GX. Prior to considering the GX I was inches away from purchasing a new Tahoe, until a guy came in to the very dealer I visiting and traded is Tahoe for an used GX. That caused me to pause. So now my research brings me here. What do I need to know when looking for a per-owned GX?

If you have ever had a GM, they all feel about the same. I had a loaded Silverado for about 6 years when they came out with the new body stile in 2000. I traded it in and 80,000 miles. It's a GM, they eventually rattle, become a little noisy with age. Tahoe's are much bigger, wider, obviously. I have a 2008 GX. Got it with mid 40's mileage two years ago and have 70,000 miles now. Still quiet, no rattles, rides like floating on a cloud in the "slush" driving mode. First and formost, you need to test drive a GX. See if you like the feel, comfort, and quality of materials. I bought mine through a Lexus dealership. Probably paid a little more, but wanted to make sure I could get the full service history on the vehicle.

I spent a lot of time reading on this forum before I bought mine. I was also considering the high end Land Rover, BMW X5, and Infinity QX. Land Rover drove like a dream, but reliability was a problem, same with the X5 unless buying new and under warranty. Infinity was nice, about as big as a Tahoe.

It all boils down to where you are at this time in your life, what you or your families needs are. When you buy a Tahoe or GX, cost of ownership is always higher. Lexus suggests premium fuel (newer first generation). Not sure I would buy a second generation yet, not sure they have the vibration problem worked out. I like the retro first generation styling. Look around as you drive, you won't see very many of them. I am always surprised, when I see a GX470. Good luck!

We bought our first one last March after driving and Acura MDX.
We were looking at Tahoes as well, but after driving a friend of mine's 2004 GX with 180k miles on it and feeling how tight and quiet it was, we made the jump.

We could not be happier...

Only downfall for me is, I have liked to trade cars about every 2 years, but my wife insists we will KEEP this one...

Gas mileage is not great, but as my grandad said.
If you can afford a car like a Lexus, don't complain about the gas mileage.

Good luck, I think you will love the GX.
