Same from where I come from.
I would call what Toyota is calling a "Pintle hitch" a "2 inch receiver hitch", that accepts either a ball mount (1 7/8 or 2 or 2 5/16 inch), a pintle mount as shown or a bike rack/baggage rack).

I cannot find, nor see through any posted pics the actual steps in removing the small hitch cover. I cannot see how to remove the small blue tabs, without damaging the part. I have a factory installed platform hitch, class IV, but it appeared to have a couple of bolts missing. I wanted to see the installation up close, so wanted to remove the cover, check out the installation, then replace the cover. How is it done?

I spent about 1:30 on my back in the garage completing this project. I ended up just breaking several of those blue clips, it was that or remove the bumper, I didn't feel like going that route.
Then I used a wrench to remove all 6 of those bolts holding that piece of steel that they place there for who knows what reason. Then I installed the hitch, used the same wrench, some lock tight, and pried the bumper out and placed one of the bolts in there to give me room to work, slowly cranked all of those bolts back in, not hard but it was tedious work, as to the plastic body colored cover, it's still sitting in my garage, I have not bothered to replace it....I may never get it back on, oh well.

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to share that you can pick up a used pintle hitch from a truck yard with 4Runners. I just picked one up for $35 instead of the $150 - $200 new price. With a little paint it'll look like new.

Today I installed my tow hitch kit from Sewell. Great folks, best prices I have found on OEM Lexus parts.
Since I have the factory tow package, and will not be towing anything in excess of 5000 pounds, the class IV Pintle hitch is more than adequate for my needs and looks the cleanest IMHO.
The PN are on the website, but here it is for reference:
5190935011PC Tube Sub
52169-60051-A0 Cover (Pearl)
You get 6 (17mm) new bolts as well, used those and saved old ones.

So, you start off by removing the old hitch plate/cover. There are two pull pins on the bottom, and 4 blue tabs that are quite tricky to get off behind the cover. I levered a screwdriver and popped it loose without any serious damage.
Here are your parts and tools laid out:
![](https://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr66/Lumbergh556/DSC02039800x600_zpsce1300a8.jpg)
The circled wrench is the most critical tool and really not able to do the job without it, a 17mm ratchet wrench. You need it to get at the bolts behind the bumper cover. You really don't want to remove the entire bumper cover, do you?
The blue tabs are visible. A 17mm socket wrench, a 10mm socket wrench, screwdriver of the flat head variety.
Next, remove 4 x 10mm bolts from bottom of bumper cover. This allows you to pry back the flexible polymer bumper cover to access the 17mm bolts.
Remove the two lower 17mm bolts. Now slide the 17mm ratchet behind cover and loosen/remove the 4 remaining bolts holding the (whatever this useless piece of metal is called). You may need a breaker bar to break some bolts loose. They all had residue of red loctite. You can't see the top 2 bolt holes in the picture. You can get the bolts in and out by prying back the bumper cover, it is quite flexible.

I used the new bolts provided in kit and blue loctite (it was what I had on hand). Install 6 bolts onto bumper.
![](https://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr66/Lumbergh556/DSC02045800x600_zps468860a8.jpg)
Reinstall 4 x 10mm bolts securing bumper cover. Add new factory fit hitch cover.
![](https://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr66/Lumbergh556/DSC02047800x600_zpsa4f592b1.jpg)
All in all, a couple of hours work for a first timer at this job. Could be done quicker in a shop for sure.
It is rather ridiculous that the pintle hitch is / was not included in the tow package you pay for from the dealer.

Hi everyone. New Lexus owner and member here. Read through this old thread.
Seems like this type of hitch the OP posted in great details is hard to find especially with Sewellpart.com closing doors.
COuld someone please kindly direct me to where I could order one of this simple hitch?
I'm just using it for a bike rack and not for towing.
I just picked up a 2005 GX470 yesterday.

Welcome Ozzer. I just got me GX a couple of weeks ago myself.
The 4Runner uses the same part so don't limit yourself by specifying Lexus only. Also look for the same Toyota part number (51909-35011). There are several sources for that Toyota OEM Pintle hitch. I found it on eBay, Amazon and several online Toyota parts suppliers.
Luckily, there are several Toyota junkyards near me. I picked up one pulled from a wrecked 4Runner for $35. I just finished repainting it. I'll install it once I get the hitch bumper cover painted to match the bumper.
Hope that helps.

I'll check out local yards as well. We have a few near my work. Can't wait to take the GX out in the desert. It's 50% of the reason why we got one (the other 50% of the reason is to rid of the mommy mobile Odyssey van).

Mounted the hitch on mine today, You do NOT HAVE to have a 17mm ratchet spanner, helpful yes, but not something i would buy a ratchet spanner for.
Managed to save 2 out of the 4 blue tabs............................which proved to be a bit pointless as with the hitch bracket in place there is no room to get them in (i think they where put on the bumper cover before the cover was put on the bumper). lts not the end of the world with the top tabs and bottom pins it seems secure enough,

Hi all, thinking of retrofitting the "pintle" hitch onto a 2007 GX470, and wondering whether it can handle the tongue weight and more importantly the torque of a dirt bike hitch carrier like this one. I'm fine carrying only one bike (300lbs) instead of two, but even then I'm worried about the torque on the mount which is a very different load than 500lbs on a ball hitch which transmits no torque. Thoughts?

Found my answer here on the Versahaul site, for anyone that's curious. Looks like it will just barely haul a dirtbike. In fact very few trucks under 1/4 ton can handle a dirt bike according to their chart and calcs.
Now a second question: Does anyone know if the part number 52169-60052 has the same cutout as 52169-60051? The number ending in 2 is available in my color code 52169-60052-B2 (Titanium Metallic), while the 2003 cover 52169-60051 is only available in -B1 (silver). If the part ending in 60052 doesn't have the cutout, does anyone know how close the 2003 Silver is to the 2007 Titanium?
