Our 2006 GX has 108,000 mi on it, so obviously it has been driven and used. We take extremely good care of the vehicle and plan to keep it for a while, so I want to address some of these minor wear and tear issues before they become worse.

1. Steering wheel and shifter **** leather wear
- Can these wear areas be dyed or repaired, or must they be replaced?
2. Front fold-down armrest leather wear
-Leather repair? How? Must it be done professionally?
3. Scuff on plastic trim panels
- This is more of a detailing question. How do you get those black shoe/other scuff marks off the panels? Have tried various cleaners and pads, but did not want to get too abrasive

A good trim shop can refinish leather, not sure about steering wheel.

 

I'm going to try something like Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on the scuffs on the plastic trim in our GX, once the weather warms up a bit.

 

test on a spot under the seat, it can take finish off, it is abraisive. been there, ruined it.

 

Good to know, thanks. I think it should work good for plastics in the trunk area that are colored plastic rather than painted trim.

 

I thought about that as well. Thanks for the info. I have tried quite a bit to get those damn scuffs off and am not having much luck!

 

My Gs 400's steering wheel is shot. Tried to contact a couple referrals to have it refinished but both totally flaked or never returned my call. Does anyone know how to do it yourself, what to buy etc.?

The wear & tear was similar to what you had, And had the Seat Upholstry guys solving the problem, it look liked new. Maybe google in your area and check them out like Bell Auto Upholstery

The steering wheel need not be removed, It is a one day job. And the wear and tear was due to my wife having excessive rings across her fingers. And they constantly rub around the steering wheel when applied pressure for turns ( I was shell shocked to hear that ) .
