Angry Rear subwoofer blown

It appears as if the rear subwoofer in first gen GX470 is notorious for sucking. I was looking up part replacements and to make matters worse, it's proprietary. My question: if I pull the assembly that houses the rear speaker (or woofer, not sure what it is), is it possible to just swap the speaker with an aftermarket speaker? If so, what would fit and work? I'm no audio expert but I am assuming I have to match ohms, etc. Has anyone here done this? Replaced the rear subwoofer in the first gen GX470? Halp!

I'm not sure if it matters, but do you have the Mark Levinson audio package in your truck? You might have to pull the sub assembly out, pull the actual speaker out of the box, and see if there are markings on the magnet showing what ohms the driver is, and how much room you have in there, and trying to find a replacement that way.

toyo-diy shows the sub assembly is held in with 4 bolts, the entire assembly looks to be over $400, and there is another part # which could be the speaker itself for just over $200.

thanks. i really just wanted to find out if I could replace it with something other than OEM plus the size, etc. So a 6" sub would most likely suffice. I suppose I'll have to find a way to make it fit, thanks for your help.

Are you running that off the factory amp, or have you gone all aftermarket?

I looked that Sub up($89.), is that the 2-Ohm ? Did it require any modding to fit and how much improvement was it after you installed it?

Not sure if we need a 2 or 4 Ohm speaker back there?

Ifthe collar is torn, you could just re-trim it and keep using it. I had to do that with my fron 6x9s twice already. Like everyone else has said, the ML speakers are total junk. For some reason, they actually sound decent all together, but they are truely as cheap as you can get.

Can you please list what speakers and sub exactly (model numbers) you're using?

I am very interested in upgrading my existing ML setup, especially when i hear some rattle from the front pass. door side speaker.

How many ohms voicecoil should you buy to work best with the factory amp? 2 or 4?
