Gx timing belt
#17
thanks a lot!! this is not at a actual dealership but at a Lexus only service shop in town. They have serviced our GX in the past and the place is always busy. This is for all parts and labor. I think I better get it done…. not wanting ti spend the cash right now but I also don't want a catastrophic failure….Thx again

On the other head Lexus dealer ship did the service and same result. I think you might have more leverage with a Lexus dealer since there pockets are deeper and there is the corp big brothers influence to bear. It might not make any difference between the two but for my money saving 500.00 to $ 600.00 does not trump the ability to have a better shot if a failure occurs. Don't get me wrong I try and save on repairs by using independents, but the W/P and timing belt job goes to the dealer. When I bought my 2004 gx 470 in july It had 89,000 miles from the lexus dealer. I had the w/p t/b done there . Two days afterwards the water pump was leaking because of a defective O ring . They had to re-do the entire job tear down labor parts etc on there dime. I was lucky that
I caught it so soon and at low speed. Car never overheated I smelled antifreeze . When I parked it at home and went and looked and it was leaking buckets.
My two cents

I tend to agree. For most service a good Toyota / Lexus indie is a good choice but for something major like a timing belt I'd only have Lexus or Toyota do it for peace of mind.
If using a non-dealer, make sure they'll be using OEM / Genuine Toyota parts and not some generic aftermarket "timing belt kit" that you see on eBay.
