Rockauto.com has the parts available for reasonable prices, but they are aftermarket, and probably pretty flimsy compared to Factory Lexus Parts.

If someone hit you, isn't their insurance company going to fleet the bill?

my dad was driving, and he got a ticket for careless driving, he tried to do a u turn in the far left most lane on the highway by going into one of those center dirt connection area where cops usually sit? between the two highways, i don't know if the other insurance company will cover it? my deductible is high so i thought save time and just take care of this myself, thanx

DAMN!! Hope everyone was ok.

Since your Dad got the ticket I'm assuming he was at fault. If that's the case you better tell him to bust out his wallet and start ordering parts from Sewell and hope the new paint matches since it's a 3 stage paint.

The cheapest way to repair this would be to get the bumper (ebay or aftermarket), have it painted and replaced.

You'll save a lot if you do the labor yourself. There are a few threads on how to take the bumper off, it's not difficult at all. With bumper and paint you should be able to get everything done under $500 or so.

i am planning on fixing it myself - never realized there were so many little parts on and around the rear bumper cover - lots of them are sitting on the highway still...

Check out sewell's website, I believe the bumpers come already painted. I know the front bumpers do.

Unpainted is $306, painted it $571. I'd say that's a fair price considering it's coming from Lexus. I'd check w/ a bodyshop and see how much they'd charge to paint your blizzard pearl because it will be a more expensive paint job since it's a 3 stage. So you might be better going w/ a Lexus painted bumper in the end.

Even for a technician with superb painting skills, the blizzard pearl (or any white pearl) is one of the toughest colors for which to get a satisfactory paint match. I would expect that a pre-painted bumper in the blizzard pearl is going to stick out like a sore thumb, and that will be especially true where it wraps around the sides and meets up with the rear quarter panels. I would think that a skilled technician would get the best match possible by doing a multi-stage blend into the sheet metal on the quarter panels.

The problem with getting a good match isn't with getting the color properly matched. Instead, it is with getting the color flakes in the pearl finish lying the same way with the ones on the adjacent panels, and what is likely to happen is that the bumper will look lighter than the adjacent panels from one direction, and it will look darker than the adjacent panels from the other direction. Again, the way to "disguise" this phenomenon is to do a multi-stage blend into those adjacent panels. About the only color with which I'd take my chances of getting a satisfactory panel-to-panel match without blending into adjacent panels would be the obsidian (black).

You're right, ideally anything with a flake / pearl should be blended. A lady hit my passenger side read door in my MDX (Nighthawk black pearl) and Acura had to fade into the front door and rear quarter.

I ordered a OEM 3rd brake light cover earlier this month from eBay and it was a perfect match to my blizzard pearl paint. Granted it wasn't a large piece like a bumper but the flake and the shade of white was a perfect match.

sewell is a no go... they have the bumper for $417 primed, i don't see any painted option, and on top of that the lowest shipping price is $140...

Looks like a blizzard pearl cover is $869.00 from Sewell that includes the shipping.
Probably cheaper than having a body shop do a blend.

EDIT:

Whoops that's for the LS. Does the GX use the same rear bumper cover?????

O.K. here's the correct one! Fits a 2004 - all years the same? Maybe the blizzard pearl formulation changed slightly from year to year. Something to consider. Dealer may know.

EDIT: Says LS430 but obviously it's not a 430 bumper. Whew both links are the same. This is one screwed up post. It's Saturday night and I'm totally sober!

Could've fooled me.

ClubLexus price is $571.55 + $140 s/h = $711.55
