Default 90K + Service Quote

Local Toyota dealer quoted ~$1,300+tax for the full 90K service including the water pump, front & rear differential and transfer case fluids. I provided them with service list from the Lexus website. I want to include the extra fluids because I tow a boat.

Comments on the price?

Does it also include the timing belt? At 90K Lexus recommends replacing it but when I asked about the timing belt being included in the 90K they said it wasn't.

If it is included in that price, that's a fair price considering it's at Lexus. If it's not definitely have them replace your timing belt since they're replacing your water pump.

Coming from a Lexus dealer that does not sound all that unreasonable esp considering it includes replacing the diff/transfer case fluids.

Does the list include replacing the serpentine belt?

And since you tow, I would highly recommend adding replacing the transmission fluid to the list if you have not done-so recently. Toyota even recommends this procedure in the manual if you tow. I had mine done at around 60k miles.

Take your list to your Toyota dealer and see what they will do the job for.

The quote did include the timing belt. It was from the Toyota dealer not Lexus.

Also, I did the tranny at 75K.

I completely missed where you said Toyota in your first post. That price is reasonable.

It's still a lot of $$$ but it will set the stage for keeping it in decent shape for years to come. I know I'll need shocks and my passenger CV axle is starting to leak (already did the driver's side). I'm the second owner of my GX but I've had it 4.5 years. It does everything I need it to do and it still looks good (except for the f'd up dash!).

It is a lot up front but thankfully it's only 90K miles.

The OEM uspension is a whole 'nother money pit!

It sounds like you are wrestling with some of the same thoughts I was about a year ago. Needless to say I decided to keep it knowing I would have to put some $'s into it, but it's a good a truck. I've done the shocks, radiator, brakes, now dash, so getting prepared to do the water pump in the 2nd quarter. After that it's all downhill.

You could certainly probably get it done for less elsewhere, but that price sounds fair and you know Toyota will get it done right.

How did you make out with the Tacoma search?

It's tough thinking I will probably put close to $3K into it in the near future if I do the 90K, shocks, CV axle, etc. In my mind it is the same as 7 payments or so. Since I'll be spending some coin, I'll bring up the dash issue since they are dealing with the same problem with 4-runners.

Yup I hear ya. Then I thought,,, what I would end up paying in sales tax would cover half of the work $'s the GX will need near term, that and as you pointed out, it's a lot cheaper than $40k+ in payments. I could buy a new engine and transmission many times over for that.

Taking her in tomorrow morning. At least they agreed to a loaner for the day! No cookies though.
