Default Yr 2003 GX470_90K service timing belt

I just want to get some technical advice from others if timing belt replacement is needed for the 90K service of yr 2003 GX470. The 90K basic service cost at the dealership is about $1200, I would think that timing belt replace is more than that amount. I read a posting that dealer replace the timing belt on 90K service but did a lousy job which lead to the damage of the engine.

The belts need to be replaced based on age as well as mileage. Usual recommendation is in the 7 year range, so you're overdue.

So far as a dealer doing a bad job -- that's not the typical case.

Default Yr 2003 GX470 timing belt replace +90K service

I finally brought my truck to Lexus dealership for the 90K service and timing belt replace package for a whopping $2100 before tax. The timing belt package includes: replace timing belt, replace water pump, crank seal, TB idler bearing, TB tensioner bearing and the accessory belt( is this the serpentine belt?), with super extra long duty coolant. I think the timing belt package parts will cost about less than $700 out of the door, the standard rate for the 90K service only is $562 before tax.

I plan to keep the truck for another 5 years and this is our family out-of-town utility vehicle. It has to be reliable and just need to erase doubt while driving on the road. The same dealership Lexus Fremont-CA who replaced the TB of my wife's ES300, no issue since it is now 119K mi...all I can say is just pay it for a peace of mind.

Love how the timing belt at 90k just says inspect it and not replace it. Here is the deal the non-vvti motors is not a huge deal if the timing belt goes out because its a "non-interference" motor. The one that will shred a motor to bits is the VVTi motors. Which were 05 and up I believe. The Supra/GS300/SC300/IS300 community knows this all to well from the 2jz-ge non VVTI and VVTi motors.
