Thumbs up Ignition Switch

Has anyone else noticed? When turning the ignition switch to the strart position the starter will continue to crank until it starts even if you let off on the switch. The reason I noticed this is on all my other Lexus vehicles when temps got to -35 the last few weeks they start better if you would crank a few turns and then stop cranking and start cranking again, as it bleeds the air from the injector lines and instantly starts veres cranking a long lenght of time. Also if the starter ever stuck this way it would be toast. Just want to know if mine is normal or if I have problems with mine , thanks

Mercedes has had this implemented for years. Lexus just copied them on it. This is also on the Toyota Sequoia. I am guessing its on the toyota 4runner too. But yeah, mercedes had this down a long time ago.

Yes, I noticed that feature on the 2003 GX-470. However my 2002 LS-430 does not that convenience.

Default Ignition

Yes, we just noticed it, too. Actually my husband did, don't know if I ever would have or not. He thought it was pretty cool.

Default Auto ingnition

Those of you that are more familiar with this type of ignition...have you ever had it get stuck, or has it presented any other sort of problems? I think it is great, but just wondered if it could be a problem down the road? Thanks for any info.

I also noticed the autostart the other day because I am getting a Remote Starter installed and was mon-keying with they key manually.

The feature doesn't exactly jump out at you. I suggest they lower the spring rate of the ignition for this last turn. In the Mercede's you actually feel like it is more electronic and I discovered it much quicker there. Also, I guess the ignition switch also protects you mechanically. Mercede's has just a plastic key that will fit anywhere, but of course you have the electronic scanner. The GX still has the metal stem. Can't say whether that's good or bad.

Interesting thing about the remote starter device (I will publish the manufacturer soon). It requires you take the plastic part of the key and place it inside its control box. Because the valet key is cheaper, I cut the metal stem off that key and placed it in the control box of this remote starter. When initiating the remote start (Lock>Unlock>Lock) from the remote key pad, it is supposed to repeat this signal near the ignition switch. Pretty interesting.
