I also mentioned the vibration on the last service and made sure it was "written up".
I'd had all wheels checked for balance and they were spot on.

The vibration is more noticeable when travelling on a flat road.

Go uphill or downhill and it seems to disappear.

I have 2 sets of tires normal & winter cross terrain and the vibration is there with either and at the same RPM between 1700-1800.

I have the same problem. It is noticed between 55-65 mph. Above and below that range is runs Lexus smooth. In that range the steering wheel starts to shake and the ride feels bumpy. I first noticed it the night I drove it home. I was hacked because I thought my new car was out of alignment or wheels out of balance. Went back to the dealer the next day. They checked the alignment (all OK here) and rebalanced the tires and checked the pressure. They said one of the front tires was a 3lbs too low. The car did ride a little better but the problems were still noticable in "the range". I now have 4,600 miles on it (in 1 1/2 months) and the 5k service is coming up. I will bring it up again with the dealer to see what they say. I will take a copy of this thread in with me.

Cessna172 --

Call Lexus customer service and report the problem -- according to them, there is no issue since they have not had reports of vibration problems. According to my dealer, the vibration is "normal" since the GX "is a truck."

I did call them, I also gave them this web site URL as well as Edmunds "Car Discussion" web site URL for reference.

I really hope Lexus steps up here and soon, I am wanting one of these things very badly.

Here is the good new, I talked with one of Lexus senior master tech earlier today. Lexus has found the cure for the vibration problem with some of the GX 470. According to the Master Tech Lexus has been conference call and email all the Senior Master around all region that has the most complain. Southern California was one of them. The Senior Master Tech was very honest about this problem, approx 30% of the GX 470 has the vibration problem. According to Lexus it has something to do with the 4 wheel drive shaft, all they have to do is take it a part clean the internal shaft with some special chemical and readjust the shaft and that should take care of the vibration problem, Lexus is currently adjusting the procedure in the assembly line, the next GX batch should be perfect. Lexus engineer has confirm the solution is 100% effective. Well, I hope they are right, my GX is scheduled for next Tues 4/29/03 to correct the vibration problem. If you want to call your local dealer to confirm this new, make sure you ask to speak to a senior master tech or at least the master tech, because services advisor don't know jack **** except for tune up schedule and oil change.

Sleep well and have a great weekend.

Did you happen to get the name of the person you talked to? I received my follow up phone call from the customer service magager and he maintains that the vibration is normal since it is a truck based frame. One of us is being lied to, I just wish I knew who it was. I hope it is me.
