Default Purchased an Indigo Blue GX470. Peeling rims. Help!

Drove home a 1 owner Indigo Blue (Nautical Blue ?) 2007 GX with only 60k miles. Retired my 99 4Runner to daughter duty. The GX guy was the **** type. Records, heated garage, new Michelins, excellent paint and interior, and all the best care.

Funny thing though, the GX aluminum rims are in worse shape than my old non-babied 4Runner rims. The finish is really coming off fast. I'm debating refinishing the GX rims or going custom. Any tips on a good looking long lasting rim solutions are appreciated. Must be Ohio proof rims. Bonus if they are light weight to help mpg. Any other GX must have info also appreciated.

This is a common problem for the GX, both for the painted wheels and the chrome ones. There's no cheap solution -- having your wheels painted or powder coated will cost about as much as a set of Toyota take-offs.

As long as they maintain a good seal at the bead, I would just keep driving them. At least until they're so bad you absolutely can't stand them anymore.

Chip - the GX is in such great shape that it seems a shame to not refurb the rims to get new.

Cmon GX guys I need ideas or shared experiences. Does refurbishing last? Are there reliable rim brands or options you have tried?

How can you get Toyota take offs?

Stop by the Toyota dealer, ask if they have any from an FJ they can sell you. Or watch for eBay auctions, craigslist, etc.

Lots of times customers want a different wheel and the dealer keeps the originals. Or people swap them out and sell them.

I use the FJ wheels on a set of winter tires....slightly different offset 30mm vs lexus 25mm. But they look good and they work....the Lexus wheels are hopeless.

Not just a GX problem but pretty much all Toyota alloy wheels. I was about to go aftermarket when I spotted a set of FJ 6-spoker with tires for cheap. I agree with OP, it's too nice looking to be rolling around on flaking paint.
