Is GX going to ride better then a 4Runner
#16
Oh I don't know for sure. I remember looking at a 4Runner limited and they physically looked like the same seats but I've never sat in one.

I have also owned both a 2006 SR5 4Runner and currently a 2009 GX470 Sport with KDSS.
The ride in the GX is hands down softer, smoother, and more pleasant. The 4Runner interior and seats do not hold a candle to the comfort of the GX interior. That being said, both are great trucks, but I love my GX.

I know my wife went from a 4Runner to a GX and the 4Runner had a terrible ride in comparison. The GX has a ride that's close to my Lexus LS, maybe even smoother. Not sure if its the added weight or the rear air bags, but it's night and day.
My opinion is Toyota should have made the 4Runner have a more plush ride like the GX since that's what 99% of customers use them use it for. The people that really want off-road prowess go aftermarket for their suspension set up anyway.

I read a lot of guys saying that the Bilstein swap ride way better. Anyway have you considered that you've been driving on a failing/shot suspension for so long that anything new will ride better?
The airbag system on the gx is far and above way smoother than the 5100s and springs. Trust me I have both. FJ springs and Bilstein in my 4runner (@45000 miles on them) and a stock airbag system in my gx (100,000 on them). Gx is way better.
Now, I can say that you will get a more "responsive" and firmer ride on the springs. And if you do a decent amount of travelling via means other than roads, then you will definitely enjoy the new shocks and springs.

Me too. My guess is that with the airbags in places and the stock springs then new 5100s should be good to go. The only thing you lose is the adjustability of the electronically controlled shocks.
I would like to say that eventually I will find out but the minute that Gc become mine and not my wife's I am yanking everything and going with an agrees I've offroad package.

I'm planning on keeping my rear air springs and need to replace the shocks. 130k. I do all paved on road, city and highway and was thinking of just swapping out with 4runner shocks. Any reason I wold be happier with Bilstein 4600's?
I am used to a firm ride in my other vehicles but want the GX to not be jarring like my S60R is.

Not alone but there is also another 50lbs of sound deadening, thicker glass and better quality body mounts. Not majorly substantial by itself but when you add it all up it will make a difference.

For the record. I went with 5100's, Eibach 610lb front and 210b rear springs. Zero Extra preload on the 5100's. Bottom setting. The truck is SMOOTH and comfortable. I could not ask for more or better. Exactly what I wanted.
