OK - this has me baffled on a couple of fronts:

1) We have never used the roof rack
2) Never heard a sound (if something did indeed hit it while driving)

How could this have happened (other than being a defective part)?

Mine broke yesterday when the right swing arm of our gate malfunctioned and thumped it. That same piece shattered.

Wow what an odd occurrence! How does a swing arm reach up 7 ft and damage just that part and not the rest of the car? Just hard to imagine.

I can tell you that didn't happen to mine. It's still bewildering as to what could have caused that

It came down on it as I was half way through the gate $159 to paint and replace from high end body shop

That A@$hole throwing rocks off overpasses here in Austin threw a rock at you and missed.

That thought occurred to me, but they (I think there's at least 1 copycat a-hole out there) usually toss larger rocks.
