Question Cargo area cover for pets

Does anybody know where I can get a basic cargo area cover to protect the back from my dogs? I am looking for something that will cover the rear of the 2nd row all the way back through the cargo area and is removable for cleaning.

I saw something on the Lexus-Parts Web Site but

a.) $375???? and
b.) I think it will interfere with the LATCH system on the second row (for child seats).

Anybody have any ideas? I've checked a couple of 4-runner sites as well, but haven't come across anything yet. Thanks in advance!

And I've already read the other post on the cargo mat... I'm actually looking for a cloth cover to even protect the back of the seats...

maybe try a pet supply site online, like Drs. Foster & Smith: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/

they usually have some good ideas for cars.

I bought one for my wife's GX470 from WWW.weathertech.com. It was $99.95 and came within three days. It looks good and from past experience with their cargo liner that we had for her 2000 Land Cruiser, it will last too!

Mogulbumm,

I am sorry. I did not read your second post, so I am not sure that I have helped you. We make the dog stay in the back (on the rare occaisions she is allowed in the car). Our dog, a Golden Retriever, is well behaved and doesn't bother the seats...the kids mess them up instead! THe Weathertech works well for us. By the way, you have to cut the holes for the third row seats and the tie-downs, but the instructions are clear and the cutting is really easy with a razor knife as you follow pre-marked indentations in the mat.

Thanks Lexuslover and Donaldak!

I've used the Weathertech products before and they are excellent, but i wanted to protect the backs of the 2nd row... not from damage, but more from dirt (my dogs LOVE to come hiking and mountain biking with us and have a particular fondness for mud... )

I think the Drs. Foster and Smith Hatchbag is exactly what I was looking for... I'll give them a call tomorrow to see if they make it for the GX470. I am guessing that they do since it is a special-order item.

Ended up with the hatchbag. $139 from Drs. Foster and Smith and they make it custom for the GX470. Delivery time is 4-6 weeks. You have to call and order since they ask questions like whether or not 3rd row is in or out, whether 2nd row will be up or down, etc... Thanks for the help!

mogulbumm :

Did you get the hatchbag cover from them? I called today and they said the GX470 was not on the list, only list the LX470 and RX300. This looks like the best solution for the rear since the dog is only in when the seats are folded. Can you check your invoice for the part # and post it if possible so I can call them back.

Thanks

Sorry... should have updated here.

They called me back AFTER I had ordered and told me that the GX470 was not on the list of available ones. I told them to order it for the 2003 4-Runner instead, 4-door, spare tire underneath. That should be close enough to fit. It ended up at $109 plus shipping.

I haven't received it yet (a few weeks away) but then again, I haven't received my GX either (due in port on the 25th). I keep you posted if it fits.

Smile Hatchbag available

You can contact Hatchbag directly and they have the GX470 cover available now . The website is:

http://www.hatchbag.com/

but has not been updated for the GX yet. If you call, 800.869.9091, it can be ordered in Grey or Tan.
I ordered mine this morning and they expect it to arrive in 10 days (7 days to make, 3 days to ship) Will let you know how it looks once I install it. Have been using an old comforter for the dog to lay on.

Just talked to hatchbag and they are exchanging mine free of charge. Great customer service there! (well, especially since I haven't opened my other one yet). It seems that the 2003 4Runner is WAY different in the back than the GX470, but they confirmed that although not yet on their site, they definitely have them available. For another $8.50, they sell a twist-lock kit which makes the mounts more durable and permanent (rather than use the double-stick tape). They basically screw into the moldings.

gzorn,
Did you find any other cargo covers that covered the sides and back and were cut for the GX? The hatchbag looks pretty good, but I wanted to see if there was anything else to choose from. All my web research has turned up nothing else that's cut for the GX and covers the sides.

The Hatchbag is the only one that seemed to cover the whole cargo area and sides that would be custom fitted. I also bought this back in Jun/Jul and no one else even listed the GX as a valid model so there might be someone else out there now. It has been great since you can just wipe it down with a towel or take it out of the car and hose it down if muddy enough.

I should have gotten the Twislock kit with it since she can move around enough to make the velcro part at times. (They use velcro to hold it to the walls) I am going to ask if that is customer installable on the hatchbag part

Their website says the twist lock kit comes with screws to attach it. Screws? I guess it's OK, but I'm not sure I want to screw anything into my brand new $50k Lexus.
