Default A/C Problem - Driver's Side Not Cold but Passenger Side Is Cold

(Edit: Problem fixed, low refrigerant, see post #8)

New guy here, hello all! I hate that I have to introduce myself only to immediately need help, but please help if you can on a 2006 GX470.

I have an A/C issue where sometimes the driver's side is not cool at all but the passenger side is very cold. Both sides are set to the coldest setting.

The weird part is, I can usually get it to fix itself by reaching back to cycle the rear A/C on and off.

I did a search on here and found one similar thread, however it seemed his fix was replacing the expansion valve; but wouldn't a bad expansion valve cause an issue to both driver's and passenger side?

Has anyone else experienced this problem yet?

Thanks for any help!
Ben

It could be several things. It could be a sticking blend door motor, it could be low in refrigerant, etc.

Agree. First thing I would look at is the refrigerant levels. Then look at the blend and diverter door motors (since they're harder to get to)

Interesting. I would have never actually thought that low refrigerant levels would cause this since the passenger side is cold. I will definitely get that checked first.

That's actually one of the most common issues when refrigerant runs low.

So took the GX to my local shop, yep, low on refrigerant. Good to go now.

Thanks again, what a great forum!

95 bucks. They did a pressure test, couldn't find any major leaks, and then recharged it. Obviously, there is a reason that it was low, but hopefully it is just a really slow leak, which I assume is normal to a point...
