I am not ready to pull the trigger just yet, I know there is a fella on Facebook GXOFFROAD that has an 06 and it does not work in his. He’s got everything but sound so far. I’ll wait until he does all the legwork before I jump in. I’m very happy to hear you have yours up and running though... good news!

He may not have the same Android unit as I do though. Do you know what the make and model number is?

I am positive that he does not. His unit has physical buttons for the a/c controls. Knowing that there are 3 generations of nav/radio units for the American market GX470, makes me want to make sure others have done the legwork to get them up and running. I do see your point, but honestly I like how he has physical buttons with the big beautiful screen.

Ok. I picked up the GX470 today. Yesterday due to freezing rain I wasn’t able to.

First impressions are very positive!! Unit functions beautifully. It totally transformes the interior in to a much more modern looking vehicle. System is very easy to use. If you use a smart phone then you can use this system. I used the Navi to get home and was simple and accurate. I also streamed my music through and was flawless. Bluetooth was easy and phone calls are a breeze. I used my iPhone as a hot spot and my 3 year old watched a cartoon on YouTube on the screen. It has 2 USB connections which my mechanic ran in to the glove box. The 6 pack CD player doesn’t connect but with the USB connections it’s really no longer required. I’ll probably remove the CD player eventually and free up more space in the glove box. All in all this system is the way to go.

All systems work without issue. Climate including A/C, radio, steering wheel controls, navigation, Bluetooth, you name it it works.

The only reason we had an issue connecting the backup camera was that it was an aftermarket addition. The 2003 GX didn’t come with a backup camera option. So that’s the only reason it wasn’t “plug and play”.

All I can say is it works and it works very well. I’m extremely pleased with my purchase and I highly recommend you get one.

Any questions?

Photos I took today. Everything works as it should. I wouldn’t worry too much about the different audio configurations. I’m pretty sure it’ll still be plug and play throughout the 2003-2009 model years. The connections will remain the same no matter what they changed elsewhere in the audio systems. just my 2 cents.

Looks good. I like how the ac controls are on a dedicated section at the bottom of the screen, plus looks like you have a a/c app. Very cool.

In my 2003 GX I have an aftermarket Panasonic DVD player installed. Not sure if in 2003 there was a DVD option. I never tried to see if the DVD player would work on the front screen or not. Didn't know it could but because it's an aftermarket one I'm not sure if it did anyway. The DVD player itself works. My 3 year old was watching movies yesterday while I tested out the Android system.

That looks great!

Anyone know what years had the different gens of Nav system? I'm assuming '03 and '04 would be the same?

There used to be a chart on lexusnavigation.com but it looks like Lexus no longer owns that site (I wouldn't go there)

Try using the internet archive to look at it's past.

I found this on another section of CL, and went through and deleted anything that wasn't GX specific:

Generation 2/3
2003-2004 GX470

Generation 4
2005-2006 GX470

Generation 5 Navigation
2007-2009 GX470

So from this it would appear the same unit as @BeEvil is using should be plug and play! Then we find out of there's any US vs. Canada spec issues, etc, etc, lol.

Edit: just noticed @BeEvil is in Canada as well, so it's you southies that need to worry about that!
