Projector headlights
Hey folks...
I've never had the opportunity to see these headlights at night, but I would like some feedback on what the owners are saying about them. I'm seriously debating this truck, and I am in the informatin gathering phase.
Thanks in advance..

Projectors
My opinion is they are marginally better than regular halogens, but not close to HID's. I had the opportunity to do an extended test drive (for the weekeknd) with a GX and on both my GS and Expedition I have HIDs. Once you go HID you get spoiled and it is difficult to go back, but I am hoping that I can easily retrofit an HID setup into my GX when it arrives in July.

So does anyone know if a HID retrofit kit is available? I noticed a post about a kit, but no followup. In addition, I wonder if the retrofit will have:
1. A plug-n-play approach or will extensive mods be necessary?
2. Do you think it will contain a self-levelling mount?
Thanks again!

Self leveling?

Okay..got another question.
If you replace only teh bulbs..will the optics in the projector lights still work? Or does the optics need to be swapped?
In addition, if the truck is already able to self-level does it make sense to add a self-leveling mount?
Thanks again!

In anticipation of an HID kit, I purchased a set of replacement bulbs cuz I just couldn't wait. The performance is about the same but the color is definitely whiter.
An aftermarket kit is available but not tested yet. We are having difficulty finding someone in the Southern California area to test fit the kit.
Aftermarket HID kits are plug and play with some minor wiring. There are no aftermarket kits I've seen with the autoleveling feature. There is too much involved in the autoleveling feature. I think it would be too costly to add that feature.
Tetra, are you asking about changing just the bulbs or changing to a complete HID kit which includes bulbs ballasts and all wiring harnesses etc.?

Other kits
I said this once before, but here's a refresher.
OSRAM/Sylvania makes HID (Xenarc is their product line) kits for fogs and direct replacements for other vehicles...like the F150/Expedition and the Tahoe/Silverado series. The kits are now relatively inexpensive..I paid over $900 for the one's in my Expedition which included new headlight assemblies with new optics. However, on a projector beam light, or a clear lens headlight (like most are today) it is just a bulb/ballast add on, the question is will the mounting surfaces be good (.e. the locking ring on the bulb base...if it is then the Sylvania kits can be had for less than $400 these days and can be installed by a cross-eyed baby using a butter knife...it's that simple. I am going to talk to the guys at Sylvania and see if it'll work.

to me, the lights are fine. While not blue like HIDs, they are plenty bright and I would not spend the $$ on an aftermarket HID kit.
However, there are lots of other reasons I would think long and hard about he GX. Most of all, it vibrates at highway speeds and Lexus customer service is, at best marginal.

Dear "0260n5.7"
Your comments that "After changing to 20" HREs, there is no vibration Thats too bad that you rLexus dealer has bad service. Here their service is unsurpassed."
Does that mean mean you had a problem?
What is your average speed in Guam?
According to my source at Lexus who doesn't want to be named..the vibration is a BIG problem!
Nothing to do with headlights in this thread but this is a big concern to many!
Thanks

I had a slight shimmy at around 55mph. It was like one of the wheels was out of balance. I haven't noticed it since changing the wheels. The average speed on Guam is quite low but at times, there are stretches where 55-60 is the comfortable speed.
