Power steering fluid change on high miler
#2
Ya I used this same process when I bought mine last April. The PS fluid turns black after a bunch of miles, this is the best way to get the old stuff out. My pump was beginning to make noise and this solved it.

Thanks for this post. I will definitely be doing this in the near future as I have the same issue that JLEE50 described.
When I cold start mine, I can hear the PS pump groan like 4 or 5 times, like it is trying to circulate the fluid. Also I hear it make the same noise randomly while driving. This could be also why I have a slight steering wheel shake. Will update once I complete the flush.

Good post anyoldiron! Your method is very good and I probably should be using it. I just started exchanging my PS fluid yesterday. I'm just sucking the old fluid out of of the reservoir and replacing it with fresh standard Toyota ATF (not WS). So far, three exchanges and I'm starting to see a little red. Man, that old fluid is nasty smelling and looking! Picked up a 'sucker' at Menard's for under $4.00. The sucker comes with a small hose that gets down to the bottom of the reservoir. Again, not as good as your method anyoldiron, but eventually the PS fluid should be pretty clean.
