Default AC Compressor replacement?

I have a 2004 GX470 with 180k on it and when AC is working it still blows cold but somebody told me yesterday that my AC compressor is on the fritz. How do I know if it's really on the fritz and if it's the compressor or the clutch?

If I do need to replace any good places out there to get a remanufactured one? Is denso a good OEM replacement? Trying to get this done (if needed) on a budget. How much should labor cost for this type of repair?

Thanks in advance.

If it's not making noise, and it's still blowing cold when it should - how is it bad?

You usually hear the clutch when it engages and disengages but while the compressor is running and the compressor clutch is locked up it shouldn't be making any noise (it makes a clicking noise). This could be a normal function and sound of the auto clutch system but maybe a sign of something on the fitz. Thoughts?

Ok, if it's making noise when engaged, it needs looking at. Like mrblister said - the OEM is a Denso.
You don't need to go to the dealer for this - any competent auto A/C repair shop can handle this.

If you end up needing a new compressor, these guys are by far the cheapest and best supplier. A NEW OEM lists for $199. I have bought 2 new compressors for 2 different cars and have been very satisfied.
