Hey guys,

I purchased an 07 GX 2 weeks ago. The air bags were leaking and the seller agreed to knock $500 off the selling price as he said thats what his mechanic quoted him to do a rear coil conversion, which aligned with my research. I called metal tech to schedule an appt (im here in portland), but they told me they don't actually do labor on cars and they gave me the # to a local shop they recommended. When I called the local shop, they said they had never done the rear conversion before and they would have to call metal tech and call me back to get a quote. The shop called me back and quoted 8 hours of labor to do the conversion, which seems insane as all my research shows 2-3 hours of labor. 4 hours each side to replace a spring doesn't make any sense to me. I was wondering what others have experienced? Are they trying to fleece me?I find it hard to believe MT would say it's an 8 hour job. I intended to spend a fair amount of $$$ with MT on my GX, but we are off to a shaky start................

3 hours is lots of time if you don't run into problems (rusty bolts, broken bolts, etc). I did have to cut off my rear end links with a grinder and get new ones. It helps to have a buddy to push down on the rear axle to get the new springs in place.

3 hours is about right. In that time I had run to Home Depot to get a saw zall to cut the rear shocks out. Top nut was completely rusted to the shaft. 30 minutes and 100 bucks later both shocks were out. It really is the stuff that you don’t plan on that become time sucks.

will help if you have the heavy duty large jack stands from harbor freight or access to a lift.
