Default 2005 GX 470 DVD-NAV Operation

rsg,

On the 2005, it's the larger of the two end plugs. The one that is closest to the passenger seat. It is the only one that contains a voilet (purple) wire with a red stripe. This plug will also contain the LIGHT green wire.

Let me know if this helps.

Smile Camera in GX470-Land Cruiser withut RSES

Hi everybody,

I'm barging in this thread but I'm nearing despair. I need to connect a rear parking camera to a Land Cruiser Prado (basically the exact same car, and how the GX470 is marketed out of the US/Canafa markets, uses the exact SatNav unit as the GX470). I am trying to find out if I can wire the camera straight onto the display or I need a "control" module by Lexus/Toyota to intervene.

All and any help will be very much appreciated

Pdantoni,
It works!!! Just as you described. I didn't add the switch. I just cut both purple and green wires and grounded the green wire to the radio. It was pretty simple but I took it slowly since I am cutting wires of $50k vehicle. Check five times and cut once.

Thank you VERY MUCH!!!!!

Forget the switch. It is a piece of cake. If you want to go back to the original configuration then just put it back together then.

Problem is, without the Switch, you can't use the Navigation System at the same time.

Sure you can. I did the mod and I switch back and forth all the time. Put the GX in park and pull the brake. Cycle through to the DVD player then switch over to NAV. This is how it will work while you are driving with the mod.

I installed the switch on a 2005 GX 470.

FROM WHAT I REMEMBER....

1) By the time you are ready to install the switch, you will have cut the violet (purple) wire with the red stripe and the light green wire. By cutting these two wires you now have four cut ends.
2) The ends that run to the plug or the navigation screen go to the upper two poles.
3) The ends that run into the wiring harness go to the middle poles. Make sure the wire colors are aligned.
4) Run a wire to ground to the lower pole (Light Green wire side). The other pole on the lower side is not used.

Diagram:
Switch Poles
Violet Wire from Plug O O Light Green Wire from Plug
Violet Wife from Harness O O Light Green Wire from Harness
Blank O O Ground Wire

Throwing the switch up reconnects the original factory wires.
Throwing the switch down disconnects the violet wire and grounds the light green wire, allowing you to watch a DVD on the navigation screen.

Please let me know if this helps.

My diagram in the previous post didn't come out to good. I'll try again.

Switch Poles ("O"):

------Violet Wire from Plug -----O O------Light Green Wire from Plug
Violet Wire from Harness------O O------Light Green Wire from Harness
---------------------------Blank -----O O------Ground Wire

Throwing the switch up reconnects the original factory wires.
Throwing the switch down disconnects the violet wire and grounds the light green wire, allowing you to watch a DVD on the navigation screen.

Please let me know if this helps.

Cap, I haven't done it, but from all my reading in this long post, I believe this is incorrect. The wire that is cut (or switched) has nothing to do with the Nav function.

It is said the only reason for the switch is to put it back to exactly OEM function so in case you take it in and in case the Service guy was looking at issues in the system and kept seeing a Parking Brake ON signal or a lack of speed input to the DVD logic.

But, the Nav function is not affected in anyway.

If anyone knows for a fact this is incorrect please correct me.
