I owned a 99 Land Cruiser with the same drivetrain as your LX. I have an 05 GX now. The lighter weight and extra power are very noticeable to me. The trans shifts smoother in the GX. No sport button on the 5 spd.

I also owned a 99 Land Cruiser for 14 years. The most noticeable thing to me was the much smoother ride of the GX. The GX definitely seems quicker than the LC did. As far as the transmission goes, an automatic is an automatic to me, I’m not particularly fond of them lol.

I can’t comment on the ride. My LC had an OME lift kit when I bought it. Smooth is a good word to describe the stock GX to me. Smooth power, ride etc.

To add, I also came from a 99 Land Cruiser, and the power difference is night and day, way better!

I had an 04 previously and now have an 07. I can definitely tell the difference.

I have an 03 GX and have driven the various newer models, have driven a few different 100 series LXs, and own a 200 series LX. The GX 470 feels practically like a rocket compared to the LX 470. In routine driving, I find my GX to feel at least as peppy as the LX 570 unless you stand down on the LX a pretty good bit, in which case it comes to life. The GX just has torque where it's needed for normal driving that I do, and the transmission is excellent because it is almost instantly in the right gear when you need a little acceleration. Statistically it's one of the lower power-to-weight ratio vehicles I've owned, but it's one of the only ones that I rarely encounter a time where it feels like it needs more power. The 330 lb. ft. of torque and the excellent transmission just work well. And the modulation of the throttle, brakes, and transmission is just great, IMO. I think you'll love the GX 470 if you get one. We have the GX and LX both sitting ready, we can take either one we want when we go somewhere. The GX gets just about exactly 2x the miles put on it as the LX. I just like it.
