Default Who has replaed with OEM shocks - experieince?

I am very happy with my GX but it has 138,000 miles on it. I keep thinking that the shocks needs replacement with this many miles. I run them on Firm at all times along with the KDSS the handling seems controlled but I don’t have a sense if they have deteriorated or not. Has anyone replaced the OEM shocks with new OEM shocks and did they notice a difference or feel the cost and effort was justified. Prices vary a lot using ebay as a guide. Some shocks seem to be true manufacturer shocks and some I assume are aftermarket and this is the reason for such varying prices. So, one anyone replaced the original shocks with like kind? If so what did you buy the factory or some of the cheaper priced shocks? Thanks

we had the same issue. as the shocks wore we ended up always on firm setting. i don't know why they have adjustable shocks other than to be luxurious. Anyway, i replaced them with bilstein 5100s and my wife loves the ride. no more adjustability but she never used it much anyway.

How would you rate the ride with the Bilsteins compared to the OEM? I'd be quite happy with a firm ride equal to or firmer than the firmest OEM setting.

Any aftermarket shock over the OEM will provide smoother dampening, the Bilsteins will definitely be a step up.

It will always be a step up bc you will have been used driving on a bad suspension for a good long while.

Dealer replaced my fronts with OEM around 90k miles at the first sign of leakage. It felt better but not a significant difference. Probably all in my head. Then around 130k, I priced out the OEM rear shocks. They were stupid expensive. I replaced them with V8 4Runner non adjustable. Again slight ride improvement over the older units but nothing significant.

I am at 227k miles with what I believe are original shocks, and the ride is fantastic. IDK how much better it could be with new shocks all the way around. I wish I could drive one with all new suspension to compare it to mine.
