Default 6500 - 7500 mile oil change interval?

I'm looking at a 2008 GX with just over 100k miles that had it's oil changed every 6500 to 7500 miles at the Lexus dealer. This seems kind of long to me and I'm wondering if I'd be buying an engine with potential sludge issues. What do you guys think, is it to long or nothing I should worry about?

Probably the next question you might want answered is, was it synthetic, a blend or regular dino oil?

If the oil changes were done at the dealer, they are using bulk oil unless the customer brings their own or specifies synthetic. If a quality full synthetic oil was used at 6000-7500 miles, you should be fine, however, driving style, the area where you live, and much more all play a role in how the oil performs. Ninety percent of oils on the market including Mobil 1 are not 100% synthetic.Marketing states "full synthetic" which misleads the masses. The good thing about our engines is that they are port fuel injected which is far easier on the oil compared to Direct Injected engines.I do 1 year oil changes on our GX470 with 100% synthetic oil and a quality oil filter with synthetic media. What year truck are you looking at and what is the mileage?

Since I don't see anything specifically stating synthetic assuming dino or at best blended would be my safest option.

Sorry about not including the year and mileage, I edited my original post to fix that. But it's a 2008 with just over 100k miles. I don't see anything stating synthetic was used so it's probably safe to assume bulk dino or at best blended.

I did a google search and didn't see any significant reports of sludge in the 4.7 liter engine. Most were of "light colored" oil because the owner made a lot of short trips and the engine didn't come up to temperature, and thus had a lot of condensation in it.

I wouldn't worry about it - I do changes at 5k intervals, which for my low usage comes out to about every 6 months. No issues.

The engine is virtually bullet proof. Toyota schedules oil changes conservatively to protect themselves...I don’t ever remember seeing the word sludge come up on this message board...

Thanks for letting me know.

Good to know. Maybe I'll take a chance and buy it. It has had the TB/WP, radiator and alternator/battery replaced within the last year so most of the major stuff is behind it. Thanks for the help.

Its 2018. Oil has come a long way and so has engines.

6500-7500 is fine... Blackstone labs even said you should be safe pushing it near 10k.

The blackstone labs 10k recommendations were all on syn or "fake syn" like mobil 1. If good oil was used or miles were highway then 7500 OCI is fine. It would be nice to be able to peak under a valve cover if possible for piece of mind but also if you did some earlier oil change intervals after buying it you can reverse some minor sludging issues. This engine is not as prone to the dreaded V6 cam timing actuator sludge issues over on the 4runner forums.

Under my valve cover....166k miles. I dont know the exact miles for the intervals since i purchased the car used at 165k... but as you can see its decently clean.

They were paying $60 for LOF and rotate so it seems likely that bulk oil was used.

That's really clean for any miles. Thanks for the picture.
