Air-to-Coil conversion with 2" lift
Purchased my GX470 on Monday after having Nalley Lexus complete a pre-purchase inspection. I was previously aware of the driver's side airbag issue already but they gave me great peace in providing the full service history from Sewell Lexus in Dallas.
I've been reading CL/IH8 threads pertaining to the Air-to-Coil conversion before researching and planning so I wanted to run it by you kind folks, ask questions & get some input.
Genuine Toyota 48302-35040 Spring Seat Sub-Assembly
2x $75 [$150]
Southern Style Offroad GX470 AIR TO COIL SPRING CONVERSION KIT
$85
Old Man Emu 895 (Medium & +2")
$175
TOYOTA 58839-60040 Console Box Hole Cover
$18
I understand this is going to give me nearly +2" in the rear.
[1] Is it necessary to lift the front at the same time or would this be fine for a few months?
[2]Should I be looking at different springs? [3] Should I be looking at buying the front springs also & installing at the same time?
I am on a budget but have offset cost (in my mind) by negotiating an acceptably lower price with the seller.
For me, the goal is to keep it getting groceries while I sneak in upgrades under the guise of repairs and maintenance. What do you think?

That's going to be a LOT of rake, I'd try and find a cheap set of FJ Cruiser or 4th gen 4Runner rear springs to stick in there until you get around to lifting the front, then it's just a matter of swapping springs in the rear as the rear coil conversion would already be done.

if youre going to do the front as well you might as well get you some decent shocks that can handle the lift.. e.g. 5100 or the likes... especially if you are going to compress the spring on the front to remove the top hat.,
[1] Is it necessary to lift the front at the same time or would this be fine for a few months?
- Necessary? no but it will look Weetaded if you lift the rear and not the front. That being said safest best if you want to ride with stock front but with spring rear get yourself some FJ rear springs. I did FJ rear springs by moog $60 for awhile before my big lift and the ride was amazing (stock).
[2]Should I be looking at different springs?
FJ AWD Rear springs is your best bet if you want matching stock height. and cheap.
[3] Should I be looking at buying the front springs also & installing at the same time?
Yes. if you want to lift the rear. Do both at the same time.

My personal opinion (which doesnt matter) is to do FJ rear spring + SSO or Metaltech conversion and focus a lot of money on maintenance and making it ready for another 100k miles without needing to worry about opening up the engine between those miles. Stock GX will do wonders.
