Default Manual Foot Air Pump for tires.

Okay guys, this is an "old school' question. Many of you might not use it anymore. But still...

Do you guys know if there is a good, reliable foot pump that will work on our GX tires well? How long does it take to foot pump a tire? Is it too hard? Is there a good one that can pump fast?
I know that an electric portable is more efficient and comfortable to use. But I'm looking for something that is reliable. Manual stuff normally lasts longer. It does not overheat - stuff like that.

I'm hoping there is a good foot pump out there that can pump my tires fast enough. Google didn't help me. It shows me electric ones instead and some cheap 1-2 star reviewed foot pumps.

If you had experience with a foot pump and it's too time consuming and sweaty, then please, advise on a good, reliable, long lasting electric pump at a reasonable price.

Thank you.

Feel free to be the first trying that on the GX tires and let us know how that works out for you.

as for me... im not going to foot pump a 33" tire... i use Tuff Stuff Overland TS-150-CMP-XT Xtreme Portable High Volume Air Compressor 150 PSI 5.65 CFM.. with 5.65 CFM it gets the job done nicely while you enjoy a beverage of your choice instead of sweating away.

How long have you used it for? Is it reliable? Have you used VIAIR? I've heard that VIAIR is good. Haven't heard of the one that you have.

If a foot pumping is too time consuming, then I will go with an electric one. I just thought there was fast foot pump.

Guys, please also suggest a good, long lasting with an accurate pressure gauge electric pump. Going to slightly edit my initial post.

Thank you.

cant say if its reliable yet but ive had it for a few months now and used it a few times. So far so good...

Luckily the pump has a gauge... and my dual inflator/deflator i made has a gauge on it too and i have another digital gauge in the car... so i can cross reference 3 different ones if im picky.

The VIAIR is recommended by lots of RV owners.

I've got a floor pump I used on my mountain bike (bigger tires need more air) and it's not something I'd want to inflate a SUV tire with. Get the electric.

A question to consider is to go with a 12v socket model, or if you can find a 120vac one that is under ~100 watts, use it with the inverter plug in the cargo area.

Get an electric one with gator clips so it connects right to the battery posts, that way you don't blow your lighter socket fuse when you need the pump to work, and they are often bigger output compressors than 12V style.

I've got a Titan brand compressor that I got cheap from Home Depot years ago, it's a real beefy unit and keeps up with my buddy's dual piston ARB (he's got 35's, I've got 33's, but still pretty decent!) for a lot less money! I can't seem to find any links to the unit I've got, I'm thinking they may have gone under unfortunately.

Definitely don't waste your time with a manual pump for airing tires back up.

Lol I bought a garage sale Sears brand 12v compressor for about $5 and 10 years later it still works like a champ. Granted, I don’t use it that much but still.

I would like to hear if someone has manually pumped an SUV tire. Would seem like quite a workout.

I found these options so far:

Smittybilt 2781 5.65 CFM Universal Air Compressor
Amazon Amazon
Tuff Stuff Overland TS-150-CMP-XT Xtreme
Amazon Amazon
VIAIR 300P

Titan https://www.toolplanet.com/product/T...air-compressor (the only Titan with a reasonable price, others are too expensive)

Any advise on which one to pick or any other suggestions?

Thank you.

Being pedantic but just so you know the CFM ratings of all but the high end compressors are measured at atmospheric pressure and are the amount of CFM that the compressor is sucking in. A 120V plug in compressor you'd use in your garage can do at best 0.5 CFM output at 90 PSI. That doesn't matter a ton in this case since its just airing up tires but just a bit of knowledge to share

best to youtube each compressor you listed and see which fits your needs for these criteria:

1). Size (how portable it is)
2). Noise level
3). Weight
4). Convienence
5). Speed of tire inflation.

After you grade those you can best determine what fits you because what fits person A will not usually be the best for person B.

like i said above.. i use the TuffStuff compressor.. its big.. its heavy and its fast

If I was looking for an airing up portable compressor, I'd be looking for speed, price/value, and size/packaging as my main criteria. Having a carrying case that houses the hose and cords makes it a lot nicer to have in the truck. I'd seriously stay away from stuff that plugs into the lighter as I've blown the fuse airing up before, and then you've got nothing, gator clips right to the battery are the way to go for these.

Thank you. I'll be looking for one that connects directly to the battery. An yeah, speed/size/price and a case to store it in.

I kept one of these for years... prior to getting a small lithium jump pack and a portable pancake compressor(that will run off the A/C outlet).

This is is a 3 in 1 from harbor freight. Not really an everyday tool, although I used in my weekend shop years ago... when I was just starting up. I put this thing through a bunch of rough days. It still works and it rarely ever gets used now.

Has a tire fill port behind the fold down plate on the back... and a light to see what you are doing. Can’t beat it for $59(but wait till they have a 20% off coupon, they do that every week or 2).
