Question about Tire size.

Question about Tire size.
Hi Folks,
Just picked up a new to me 06 GX470 and I am quickly learning that these forums are a great resource. Based upon everything I am reading, the largest tire size that I can go with without any mods is 265/70/17. I am considering duratracs and while it may be a stupid question, would the stock 265/65/17 be less of a "burden" on the truck. At the moment, I do not plan on lifting the truck or doing any suspension mods. I don't want to do any trimming or fender liner modifications at this point either. Aesthetically, I have always preferred the look of a tire that fills the wheel well more....maybe that's just me. That said, this truck will probably see quite a few highway miles and more than it's fair share of snow/dirt roads.
I ran duratracs on an F350 pickup and loved them.....but they were pretty loud. But then, the GX is considerably more refined that my old diesel was. Curious to hear anyones experiences with the duratracs on the GX470, and would love to see some pics. I think it's safe to assume that neither size would require any re-gearing.
Thank you all for the great resource!
Bobby

I've run Duratracs in both 265/70/17 and 265/65/17 on my '04 GX470, and my advice is go for the upsize. There is zero rubbing on a stock suspension truck, and very little downside. I went back to stock size for the 2nd set hoping to realize an increase in fuel economy, and easier towing of my double snowmobile trailer, and I've seen zero upside and regretting going back down to stock size the whole time, lol.

The double snowmobile trailer is about a foot wider than the GX on each side, and has a salt shield on the front, so tows like a parachute, much harder to pull than the weight would suggest due to wind drag. I found the GX struggled to say in OD at speeds much above 105km/h and would hunt for gears a bit. I was hoping going back to the stock size tires would get rid of that behavior, but I can't say I noticed an improvement.
