Default Pesky Wheel Bearing Replaced 3 Times

Maybe I'm replacing the wrong side wheel bearing?

Symptom: At speed I hear the usual wheel bearing roar, loudest between 50 and 60 mph. Turn left it mostly goes away, Turn right it gets louder.

Repairs: I have replaced the left hub 3 times in the last year trying to fix it, I have also replaced the left axle as it had a bad boot.

The sound will not go away. Maybe I'm changing the wrong side, but I don't thinks so. Any other ideas?

I don't come here, this is my first post and I will probably disappear until more trouble arises, but I would appreciate any help, very very much

Brian.

Wheel bearing noises are hard to locate. If you've got it on a lift, rotating the wheels by hand and listening/feeling doesn't always find it.

I would say that the chances of you getting 3 bad bearings in a row are pretty low, especially if you're using a quality bearing like a Timken or Koyo (i.e. not Chinese). So you're probably replacing the wrong one. Do the right side next.

Buy a mechanics stethoscope from horrible fright (harbor freight) so you can pinpoint the location. Jack the car up and spin the wheel with the stethoscope against the wheel bearing and you'll be able to tell if that side is actually bad

I had a bearing noise that would go away when i turned right, so I replaced the right bearing. No change, so installed the "bad" bearing from the right and put it on the drivers side and it was fixed. The idea that taking weight off of it and it stopping doesn't always indicate the correct side. It was opposite in my case.
