Default hitch install

I am looking at purchasing a 2009 GX470 but there is no hitch. I assume the truck did not have any towing package so I guess I will need to add a transmission cooler, hitch, and wiring. Has anyone did this? Any suggestions on what to get? The U Haul hitch looks similar to the Curt hitch and U Haul wants 400 bucks to install. No idea on transmission cooler install?

Trans cooler is installed on all trucks. Also this has been covered a million times if you search at all

Ask the previous owner to produce the brake controller pigtail. It's a small wiring harness (about 15" long) which helps install a brake controller without cutting into the factory harness. The connector for it is taped to the wiring bundle by the steering column.

Don't automatically rule a Lexus hitch out, assuming it's too expensive. They're bulky & heavy items, so they get shipped by LTL freight. That cost is included in the Lexus price, but is extra on any 3rd party mail-order hitches.

Look for the frame mounted hitches - they are rated higher.

You can do the install with a helper. The instruction sheets will have the torque specs for the bolts. You might not have to remove the bumper cover (try it & see).

If you have any rust at all on your frame, get a tap set to chase the threaded holes on the frame & clean them up before starting the install.

You can consider the factory Lexus hitch from a salvage yard also

If you do the install yourself I'd get a tap set. The open threads of the welded nuts in the frame can get pretty crusty even in salt free areas.
