Default 4LO engaged

First time poster and I am supposed to be picking up my new to me 08 GX470 tomorrow from a private party. During the test drive the only thing that concerned me is that when engaging 4LO, no light on the dash came on but I could feel the vehicle drive differently (more torque) so I assume she engaged. Is this normal? In my FJ and 4Runner when in 4LO a dash light comes on so not sure if this is normal or not? Any and all input is appreciated!

In the 4runner for sure low range is activated electronically by a **** on the dash so you need that light to know when its engaged. I'm not sure about the FJ since I think those have a J stick but in the GX there is no dash light for 4lo vs 4hi because you know that it is engaged by moving the transfer case stick. Make sure to test the center diff lock as well since those will stick if they are almost never used and be unable to lock. When you push it the light should flash and go solid when its locked.

THANK YOU for the response, I really appreciate the info. I checked the center diff lock the other day in a parking lot (I know i know how bad that is....) but it worked! Can't wait to pick her up. 08, 77k, from a TX retired couple! Lets start the adventures

Congrats on the new purchase!

With regards to the transfer case, never leave it in neutral. Even if the transmission is in park, putting the transfer case in neutral disconnects the transmission, and it could roll away. There is a warning light on the dash, but sometimes the bulb is burnt out or the switch inside the transfer case is bad and you won't see it.

Locking the center diff in a parking lot is fine as long as you're not turning. If you just drive in a straight line you're not putting any additional stress on anything.
