You can turn it on using the Mode button on the steering wheel, but it won't always autoplay, it'll take you to the "play-menu" screen. If you are in park I think you can start it on the front nav screen (I don't remember for sure).

Insert a DVD into the DVD drive and the rear screen will be on automatically. If the DVD is already in the DVD drive, you have to use remote to turn on the rear screen or just eject and insert it again.

Ok - but that wasnt the question. Lets try and simplify this for all of you:
Lets say you had a chil in the back seat who was too young to control the remote for he DVD screen in back. And you were driving the truck with a DVD already installed in the player. If you reach back and flip down the screen - how do you get the DVD to play without using the handheld remote? Does that make sense?

Your question does make sense. Unfortunately, I'm unaware of any way to turn the player on in that situation w/o using the remote. The good news is that you really only need to do two things: (1) press the "dvd" button to power it up and (2) press the round cursor control button to clear the dialog box that will be blocking the picture. And if your child is at all like my 3 year old, you'll have to do it very quickly to avoid the whining.
Alternatively, you could always perform the parking brake override that's been described in detail on this forum - or have a car audio/video shop do it for you.
