Default 2006 Lexus GX 470 Engine noise

Just purchased my GX about a week ago. I have only driven it around 400 miles since and just notice a ticking sound from the engine (didn't hear this noise when I did the test drive)
The vehicle has been maintained exceptionally well (Carfax shows it didn't miss a service.. in the shop every 4k miles).

Anyways, I was curious if anyone has come across this issue with their GX.
does it sound like valve train issue, lifters, manifold leak, rods..?

Thanks in advance!

How many miles on it?
"rods", in what sense, piston connecting rods? I doubt it.

Ticking from the valve train seems normal. The video though sounds more like a diesel engine. And you have no CEL? Hard to say from that vid. Almost sounds like a solenoid is flapping.

Inspect all the connectors that you can, make sure they are all clicked in, and none have come off, etc.

It has 180K miles.
Timing belt has been replace twice (@83K and @170K).

...as far as "rods," yeah, I was referring to connecting rods.
but you're right, this VVT-I Engine certainly does sound like a diesel.

no check engine light either... runs great, no loss of horsepower or acceleration from what I can tell... just started make this sound the past couple days.

I don't have the best "eye and ear" when it comes to engines, but I'll do my best to inspect all the connections.

Thank you for the reply!

08 GX 470, we were the first owner and very happy with this SUV. However, sometime last year ny secondary air pump injection went out and had it fixed ($$$$$). A few months later, a very annoying "ticking sound" came. I took it to a local Toyota dealer and I was told that it was a valve lifter (driver side). LIke yours no check engine, no loss of comprehension and accelerates fine like a brand new motor (160K miles). I am scheduled to have it fix next month, I met one of the head mechanic at Lexus and he will work on it on weekends at his house (my neighbor). I'll let you know what happens next, if it is really a valve lifter. I was told that this is very unusual for a 4.7 L engine.

A valve is either bad with bad things going on, or it's not. Maybe a valve shim has fallen out? My guess is, its related to a shim.

Question Same issue on my GX 470 09

Hello I was having the same issue with my GX an 09 where it almost sounded like a diesel truck. Did you happen to fix issue?

This was the post I had made. In the video you can see that they both sound exactly the same.
