I am a former GX owner. Lexus has told me that November builds of the GX will have the amended GVWR over 6,000lbs. November build means December deliveries. Could be late in December. I couldn't wait I have ordered a LX!

Customer Service told you this? I spoke to them last Thursday and they said it would not change. This is frustrating.

Well guess what guys? I just got a few calls from some of the Lexus Dealers that I have been dealing with and they indeed do have some GXs with GVWR over 6,000lbs. I believe it was 6,150, but don't hold me to that. But the important thing that it is over 6,000 lbs. I looked at the sticker but it did not say anything about the knetic suspension on the vehicle, so I am confused on what they did to the vehicle to insure that it topped out to the right GVWR. From what I understand the vehicles over GVWR have a '-B' at the end of the special number that the Lexus dealers uses for their vehicles.

No pricing is announced yet, I still believe it will not be an option. That is my opinion.

You make options for truck suspension systems on the Toyota line of vehicles not for Lexus. It would seem proper to do so. Look at the main features of the Kinetic (according to Lexus Website, and Tigmd)
- Better Articulation for traction off road.
What Lexus owner would really, truly care enough about that to pay money for an option.
- Decrease vehicle sway
Sounds more like a saftey feature than anything else.
- Antidive, and Antisquat control. Again these are nice, but shouldn't the vehicle be designed with this in mind anyway.

We are not talking about a scaled down ford pickup and an aftermarket suspension and lift kit. We are talking about a Lexus. Suspension should be designed from the factory to be versatile, safe, and comfortable for a variety of conditions.

You don't see the LS400 with a Lexus add-on for new springs, do you?

Default what I heard

My local dealer has told me that the new '04s hitting the floor in the next couple of weeks will have the GVWR of 6150--he also said they had added the KDSS, and that's what's responsible for the change in the GVWR. I don't believe him. The may have upgraded the suspension, but I don't think it's going to be the KDSS yet.

Default KDSS

Can anyone give me a quote on how much the KDSS option will be? I can't get a single resonse from any of my contacts because the 04 models are being taped out now and should begin manufacture next month. Therefore, no price quotes on KDSS.

Jacksonian, if you have doubts, ask how much the KDSS option will cost? I sincerely doubt your salesperson will have a number.

My dealer confirmed that the 04GX model 9700B (GVWR 6150lb) will arrive in two weeks.
Does anyone know how the GVWR is calculated?
Does it mean they added 150 lb weight to the GX 9700B?
How is that going to affect the performance and fuel consumption?

Default no expert

I'm definitely no expert on this question, but my understanding is that the GVWR is the curb weight of the car plus the weight of everything it was meant to carry. Therefore increasing the curb weight would help, but also increasing the strength of the drivetrain would also increase the GVWR. I think it depends on axle size and lots of different elements. I'm sure there's a formula somewhere on the net.

A prior post on this topic almost made it sound like somoene coudln't either literally "add" properly or perform paperwork. I'll see if I can find it. Also, reminds me of the brainiacs who couldnt do unit conversions at JPL.

No. Car has been perfect so far. (1000 miles). Maybe I have been lucky. No clunks, squeaks, rattles or vibrations, just a smooth ride. My 2001 Denali was like a farm tractor compared to the Lexus. The GX totally blows away my (traded in) RX 330. They are not even in the same league. I really like this car! Skip
