Air Spring to Coil Conversion for 2008 GX470
Hi,
I have a 2008 GX470 with around 150K miles. My trusted mechanic told me that my air springs are leaking, and one of my shocks is leaking oil. The sad news is that Lexus charges $600+ per shock, and $300 per air spring.
I last replaced my shocks at 56K miles - I'm looking to see what the warranty is on those.
I'm considering doing an air spring conversion to a coil spring - does anybody here done this to their GX470? Which conversion kit did you use? How was the ride afterwards?
Thanks!

I converted mine to rear springs a few years ago, zero regrets. I describe the Dobinsons lift as firm, but not harsh. It's an improvement over stock IMO.
There are several "conversion kits", SSO and Dobinsons build extra height into the lower mounts, which you need to take into consideration when selecting springs. I ended up with Metal Tech's kit, which does not add additional lift.
I used OEM upper spring isolators, if I was doing it over again I'd use some generic ones to save some money, but I wouldn't use nothing as I don't want any metal on metal noises.
I initially used FJ Cruiser rear springs, and then Dobinsons when I installed my lift. If the rest of your truck is stock, you'd be looking at either 4th gen 4Runner or FJ Cruiser springs, if you carry the 3rd row seats or any extra weight, you'll want the FJC ones as they are slightly higher spring rate.
