Default Gas mileage on highway

What are all you guys getting for fuel mileage on your first gen GX? I love this vehicle but I can't bring myself to get it because of the horrendous gas rating of 18 highway. I put 95% of miles I drive on the highway so I don't really care about town mileage or even mixed.

Quite frankly I've been thinking of a 2007-2009 RX but if the highway mileage difference is only like 2 or 3 then I'd rather just take the GX and set aside a bit more gas money each month. The 3rd row would be nice to have as well as the better towing capacity.

I get 17-18 hwy with AT tires on premium gas. GX and RX is like apples and oranges. What’s your needs/wants? Do you want a crossover or body on frame truck? Is fuel economy a priority for you? My wife previously had an RX and it got about 24 hwy but the handling and seat comfort were no where as nice as the GX.

I have two kids, 4 and 5, and we just have an Acura TL. Needless to say, it kind of sucks that we don't have any room for adventures or just plainly as they grow, to have more room in the vehicle. We want a really smooth riding vehicle. That's what I prioritize; I hate feeling every bump. We could do with the RX and save on gas but the GX looks much nicer to me and would be more substantial.

I’ll take the GX all day over RX. I also have 2 kids. The GX is a better choice for family of 4 IMO for weekend runabouts, trips to the beach, vacations, etc.

That's what I'm thinking. Also it's probably more practical for towing things like boats, trailers, etc.

17-19 depending on grade of fuel. Better than most 4 and 6 cyl Tacomas if the same lift and tire size. That's good enough for me.

Click the image in my signature to see what I've been getting.
You can navigate up once you're there to see what other 2004's and other 470's are getting.

My fuel economy has appeared to be exactly the same as @chiph9 's for as long as he's had his Fuelly link in his signature line, lol.

13.9 mpg average, and 19.1 mpg is the very best tank I've recorded in the 8-9 years we've owned this vehicle, I believe that would have been on stock size Duratracs, probably with a strong tailwind.

The fun thing about Fuelly is it tells me I've spent $26,235.35 in the time I've owned it, which is more than it cost me to buy, lol. Ugh.

$11,046 for me. You drive a lot more than I do, even if that's in CDN, lol.

It is in Canadian, and represents 451 fuel ups and over 91,000kms in 8 years, so really not that high compared to average mileage being 20-24K kms/yr.

I've never been one to keep track of expenses when it comes to cars or trucks. I don't see the benefit. Ignorance is bliss.

Tracking allows you to perhaps identify an issue before it gets too bad.

There are many SUV's new & used that fit your needs. Question is, does a GX fit your needs? GX is bad on gas, and with gas prices going up even further now that US Govt has goofed on energy, driving a GX is costly just in fuel alone. If you find a used GX (10yrs or older) that has only had basic maintenance done along the way, you are sure to have a bunch more expense to come.

I wouldn't say it's bad on gas. I'd say it's average for an SUV this heavy when compared to other V8's. It's not a V6 or Hybrid so 17-20 is pretty standard.

Anything rated around 20 highway is kind of scary for me, seeing as how I'm in western WA and regular is around $4 a gallon and premium is often .20-.40 more than that. I drive a ton which is why I looked into the 2nd and 3rd gen RX models.

I didn't want to do this either, but I've also looked into new smaller crossovers. The new RAV4 does advertise 35 on the highway which is pretty neat. I'm just not fond of certain design elements of that vehicle.
