Looking at a 2008 with 89,000. Single owner, good service records. The dealer sent me these pics of the frame. I'm in New England, so some rust is to be expected, but does this look normal? I think the price is definitely a bit high, do I was hoping to get some bargaining room. Any thoughts are appreciated.
IMO this counts as moderately high rust (southerner, so what do I know).
The rust on the panels doesn't matter, but the seam along the frame is starting to develop flakes. Look at the rear trailing arm mounts - they seem to develop problems first.
Could you apply a coating? Not without first using a needle scaler and rotary steel brushes to remove the existing rust.
My guess is that with a coating, this truck has maybe 3-4 years of life left in it. 2-3 years without.

Chip,
Thanks for the reply. You pretty much summed up what I was thinking. Just trying to save myself the 45 minute drive. The jokester wants $20,000... I think if it was cherry, maybe. But that's a lot for something that needs to be remediated immediately and will only be temporary.
The search continues. Between the frame and airbags issues, I may just end up going with a 200 series Land Cruiser.
