Default Should I Scotchguard my mats??

Hi,

I just got a 2004 GX 470 in December. The carpeted mats are nearly pristine right now, and I'm wondering whether it makes sense to Scotchguard them against moisture and stains? Any advice would be appreciated.

What do they look like? Cost?

Since my current mats are perfectly fine, I don't want to toss them and spend the $$$ to get replacements yet. Would scotchguarding help prolong the current mat's life?

Click on the "All Weather Mats" on the link below. Not sure how much they cost, maybe about $120 retail but don't quote me. I got the equivalent of the dealership employee discount on mine. These will take a lot more abuse than any carpet mat regardless of scotch guard application.

Can you put the Lexus rubber mats on top of the carpet mats? I was at the dealership this past weekend and the service guy stated it would interfere with the power seats. I think it depends on how the mats are placed, but I could be wrong.

The All Weathers are the exact same shape as the carpeted mats. What the tech is probably telling you is that if you place this mat on top of the carpet mat and need to move the seat far forward, the combined thickness of the two mats may cause interference. The All Weathers were on top of the carpet mats when I picked my truck up so I just left them there since it's a perfect fit and I am incredibly lazy.

Thanks for the link, but those rubber mats are definitely not what I'm looking for. I suppose I would want them if I thought I'd be tracking a lot of mud or dirt in the GX, but I want to keep the nice look and feel of the carpeted mats, but was thinking maybe scotchguarding them would be a good idea and was wondering if other people have tried it and what their experience has been doing it......

I have put Scotchguard on my floor mats as well as the carpeted surfaces on my entire GX. I have an 05 w/ a Tan interior and live in Omaha which has its share of snow in the winter. I have used Scotchguard on my previous vehicles and IMO, it can save your interior due to an unforseen spill. It's worth a few cans of S.G. to preserve the interior of a 55k vehicle. Use the heavy duty version for carpeting. Good luck.
