How do you keep your engine compartment clean? I really only want to get the dust off, don't really need a "Gunk" type engine cleaner. Do you use any products on the plastic covers? What's the correct way to take off the covers that have the plastic rivets? I always feel like I am breaking them, especially the one over the engine compartment fuse block.

Just take it too a wash it yourself car wash and spray the tire wash/engine wash soap on you engine and engine compartment. Don't spray it directly on the electrical connections, then rinse it off with "low" pressure water. I've done this all my life on every vehicle I've owned and my engines have alway been clean and never had a problem. I do it every 3-6 months and it stays clean. I find this is cheap, quick and easy.

simple green works great too, just spray it on, let it sit, then hose it off.

I agreed used it before. I just like the fact that my local car wash is 5 miles from the house so when I get there my engine is warm and not hot. It is just easier to spary the car wash engine cleaner then it is too transport the simple green.

PS- Just don't clean a HOT engine. Also if the engine is COLD it does not get as clean, I find a warm engine is best.

i guess i luck out, my local car wash is in my front yard (and he does a wonderful job)
