I see a number of threads on the swinging rear door. Some like it, some do not. But, one thing still puzzles me: Is there ANY access to the rear without swinging the barn door open? Does the glass open on its own in any way? I suddenly got a mental image of trying to place/remove things in the back while parked in the garage and being unable to get in or out.........

Nope, must open the barn door or the horses stay put.

No way to open the glass at all, hence the HUGE dislike for the rear swing door...

There are SUVs that have fixed windows on the rear door, besides the GX470. On some vehicles its an option.

Thank goodness that we didn't have to pay "extra" for this option!

It's a love / hate relationship with the rear swinging door.

1. LOVE the convenience of it, loading-wise.

2. HATE that you can't open it at times if you are parallel parked or some is parked behind you.

3. HATE it when it's windy outside and you don't lock it into place and it pretty much swings and knocks you over.

4. LOVE it because it's different and the rear of the GX looks great.

All in all you get used to it and just really enjoy everything else about your GX.

Yep, don't mind the swing gate but at least have that rear window roll down.
